Republican Rumble ‘with a twist’ offers triple-header of debates today

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice The second Republican Rumble of the primary season will feature a triple-header of candidates debating the issues in two districts. Co-hosted by the Republican Women of Weld and the Lincoln Club of Colorado, the "Republican Rumble with a Twist" will be from 11 a.m. to about 5 p.m. today, June 1, at the Grizzly Rose, 5450 North S. Valley Hwy in Denver. Leading off the debates will be the 8th District Republican Primary at noon, featuring Gabe Evans and Janak Joshi. Evans currently serves in the Colorado House of Representatives, and Joshi served three terms in the Colorado House. The Republican nominee will meet Democrat Yadira Caraveo in the general election. Greg Lopez has withdrawn from the debate, citing a lack of endorsement from the sponsors as his primary reason. Three disqualified, one withdraws from state primary election, Secretary of State announces

By BRIAN PORTER / Rocky Mountain Voice Three candidates have been disqualified and a fourth has withdrawn from the state's primary ballot, the Secretary of State's elections office announced Friday. Luis A. Moy and Robert Tate, both Republicans, have been disqualified for failure to submit a candidate affidavit and personal financial disclosure as required by law. Moy was vying for the State House District 61 seat and Tate was vying for the State Senate District 29 seat. Charles Alvarado, a Democrat, was similarly disqualified for failure to submit a personal financial disclosure. He was vying for the State House District 63 seat. Colorado’s top speller reaches Top 5 before bowing out of national spelling bee

By Marco Cummings | The Denver Gazette Colorado’s best speller, who left viewers spellbound, reached the Top 5 before getting eliminated on Thursday night from the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Aditi Muthukumar, an eighth grader from Westminster, was Colorado’s last contender in the contest, bowing out after 13 rounds of spelling in the final round of the competition. Muthukumar misspelled “Lillooet,” a word of unknown origin and which is the name of a municipality in British Columbia, Canada. Three days earlier, a single lightning strike killed a Jackson County rancher and more than 30 of his cattle.
