By Mike Krause | SOURCE: COMPLETE COLORADO PAGE TWO DENVER–Proponents of a citizen-initiated ballot measure to place a guarantee of abortion access in Colorado’s state Constitution have spent over $440,000 just on signature gathering towards the effort, with the campaign reporting there’s plenty more where that came from. According to the Jan. 16 contributions and expenditures filing with the Colorado Secretary of State, the issue committee pushing the measure–Coloradans for Protecting Reproductive Freedom–has raised $1,368,811 thus far, while spending just $578, 488, leaving over $790,000 in cash on hand, likely more than enough to ensure the question ends up in front of voters. On Jan. 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court recognized abortion as a legal right, a decision overturned in the 2022 case Dobbs vs. Jackson.  The Colorado resolution, sponsored by Democrats from both the House and the Senate, states that the Dobbs decision "resulted in significant physical and mental trauma as well as significant financial burden on people no longer able to access abortion care where they live and who must seek care elsewhere."  The resolution passed 21-13 in the Senate and 41-14 in the House.  READ FULL ARTICLE ON COLORADOPOLITICS.COM

By Sandra Fish, Colorado Sun The 2024 general election is less than 11 months away and a wave of candidates are filing paperwork to run in Colorado’s eight congressional districts, 16 state Senate districts and 65 House districts. But jumping into a race doesn’t guarantee someone a spot on the ballot for the June 25 primary, let alone the Nov. 5 general election. Candidates must spend big money to qualify for the contest, or they can try to pick up enough support from members of their political party through what’s called the caucus and assembly process.
