Colorado Governor silent on whether he’ll use far-left smear factory to cancel conservatives after flag squabble

By Tyler O'Neil | Daily Signal Colorado’s Democratic governor, Jared Polis, did not respond to concerns that his administration would rely on the Southern Poverty Law Center to exclude conservatives from a state flag program after his office apologized for honoring a gay organization the SPLC brands a “hate group.” Polis’ signature appeared on a document celebrating the Colorado chapter of Gays Against Groomers, a group of lesbian, gay, and bisexual people who oppose experimental transgender medical procedures on children. The SPLC—which vehemently supports transgender interventions for children and labels mainstream conservative and Christian organizations “hate groups,” placing them on a map along with chapters of the Ku Klux Klan—branded Gays Against Groomers an “anti-LGBTQ ...

Wegmann: Harris Calls DeSantis ‘Selfish,’ Biden Praises Him as ‘Very Gracious’

By Philip Wegmann, Commentary | Daily Signal Two hours before Hurricane Milton made landfall, President Joe Biden had only kind words for Ron DeSantis—even though his vice president, Kamala Harris, accused Florida’s Republican governor of being “utterly irresponsible.” At issue: a phone call. The day before, Biden even gave DeSantis his personal cellphone number, urging him “to contact me directly, if that’s necessary.” Harris, meanwhile, can’t get through to the governor. After NBC News broke the story that DeSantis was sending Harris to voicemail, she told reporters that the governor was being “selfish” and “playing political games.” Biden does not see it that way. Hurricane Helene survivors’ message to Biden, Harris from those hardest hit

By Tim Kennedy | Daily Signal Hurricane Helene’s wrath devastated the Asheville, North Carolina, region while wreaking havoc across the Southeastern United States two weeks ago. The Daily Signal traveled to Western North Carolina in the immediate aftermath of the storm. While the mainstream media’s coverage focuses exclusively on ravaged metropolitan areas, like the fabled River Arts District in Asheville, The Daily Signal traversed many of the rural communities in Henderson and Rutherford counties to tell the stories of those hardest hit by Helene. ‘Zuckerbucks’ hit small towns as tech group finances more election offices

By Fred Lucas  | The Daily Signal The Center for Tech and Civic Life—which four years ago doled out controversial election grants that became known as “Zuckerbucks”—recently notified White Pine County, Nevada, of a $20,000 grant.  The county, in a major battleground state going into the Nov. 5 presidential election, has a population of about 9,000 and is part of what the Left-aligned center calls its Rural and Nonmetro Election Infrastructure Grant Program.  The notification to White Pine County came with a message from Tiana Epps-Johnson, CTCL’s executive director, and an agreement on how the $20,000 grant could be used.  READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY SIGNAL

Kamala Harris raised money in California as Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc

By Bradley Devlin  | Daily Signal While millions of Americans come face-to-face with the reality that they no longer have a place to call “home,” Vice President Kamala Harris was campaigning around the country.  Hurricane Helene, a massive Category 4 hurricane, made landfall Thursday in Florida and plowed through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Other states, including Virginia, also have been affected.  Helene claimed the lives of over 175 people and hundreds remained missing after the storm, authorities said.  READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY SIGNAL

Lott: New data on migrant crime rates raises eyebrows, alarms

By John R Lott Jr., Commentary  | Daily Signal The new data on all the criminal noncitizens coming into the U.S. is shocking. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement checks the background of illegal aliens it has in custody. But the ICE administration’s letter to Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, shows that as of July 21, ICE let 435,719 convicted criminals and 226,847 people with pending criminal charges back in their home countries into the U.S. Of those cleared by ICE, 13,099 have convictions for homicide, and 1,845 were facing criminal charges. Some 9,461 have convictions for sex offenses (not including assault or commercialized sex), and 2,659 face pending charges. The convictions include other crimes, such as assault (62,231), robbery...

Swearer: On the 2nd Amendment, Harris shoots herself in foot—again

By Amy Swearer  | Commentary, Daily Signal It’s hard to reconcile Vice President Kamala Harris’ friendly overtures to gun owners with the footage that recently emerged of a 2007 press conference in which the then-district attorney of San Francisco said cops could conduct random home inspections to enforce compliance with the city’s new “safe storage” laws. Yes, really. She told reporters: We’re going to require responsible behaviors among everybody in the community, and just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn’t mean that we’re not going to walk into that home and check to see if you’re being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs. Voters moving right on tax cuts, poll shows

By Salena Zito  | Daily Signal A national survey released weeks before the Nov. 5 presidential election shows most voters know little about the personal impacts of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which is set to expire at the end of 2025. The survey, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies on behalf of Stand Together, shows that 76% of voters, an overwhelming majority, say now is a bad time to increase taxes, and only 5% say it is a good time. The other 18% said it was neither a good time nor a bad time. The Tax Foundation has estimated that if the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expires next year, a single parent with one child making $30,000 per year will pay more than $1,000 more in taxes annually. A family of four making $75,000 is estimated to face a tax increase of more...

Von Spakovsky: Get ready for another mail-in ballot fiasco

By Hans Von Spakovsky, commentary | Daily Signal Many states are sending out mail-in ballots now for the Nov. 5 presidential election. Yet at the same time that so many more voters are depending on the mail to cast their ballots, the two leading national organizations of election officials wrote the U.S. Postal Service to demand immediate action to avoid confusion and chaos with mail-in ballots. “We implore you to take immediate and tangible corrective action to address the ongoing performance issues with USPS election mail service,” wrote the National Association of State Election Directors and the National Association of Secretaries of State. “Failure to do so will risk limiting voter participation and trust in the election process.”  READ THE FULL S...
