Trump campaign files FEC complaint to block Biden’s $91M war chest from going to Harris

By Hailey Gomez  | The Daily Signal Former President Donald Trump’s campaign filed a Federal Election Commission complaint Tuesday alleging President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are in violation of campaign finance laws after transferring $91.5 million to Harris’ presidential campaign. The complaint, which was first reported by The New York Times, was filed by Trump’s campaign’s general counsel, David Warrington, and comes after Harris announced her confirmation of delegates to be the Democrat’s new presumptive presidential nominee. “Kamala Harris is seeking to perpetrate a $91.5 million heist of Joe Biden’s leftover campaign cash—a brazen money grab that would constitute the single largest excessive contribution and biggest violat...

Swearer: Why the 2nd Amendment is more crucial than ever after attempt to kill Trump

By Amy Swearer | The Daily Signal A 20-year-old man with a rifle, perched atop a nearby roof, fired several rounds July 13 at Donald Trump as the former president spoke at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, killing one attendee and wounding at least two others. As we know now, one round nicked Trump’s right ear and he avoided a serious wound or death with a fortuitous head turn that moved him out of the bullet’s path at the last second. Almost immediately, some gun control activists saw the attempted assassination as an opportunity to call for their wish list of more restrictions on the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Talk about missing the point. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY SIGNAL Editor's note: Opinions expressed...

Who do they, as border residents, trust to protect them from drug cartels? Donald Trump

By Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell  | The Daily Signal Jim and Sue Chilton own a ranch in Arizona on the U.S.-Mexico border. Every time Jim leaves the house, Sue fears he won’t come back alive, she said Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. “Our house has been broken into twice,” Sue Chilton told convention delegates. “A Border Patrol agent was shot five times by drugs smugglers on our ranch. The cartel drug smugglers are crossing our nation’s border every day. They are bringing lethal drugs into our country.” The Chiltons’ security cameras have spotted more than 3,500 drug traffickers and others in camouflage marching through their ranch, according to Jim Chilton, a fifth-generation rancher in Arivaca. “These are not asyl...

‘Washington’ Republicans have failed America, Heritage Foundation president says

By Hudson Crozier  | The Daily Signal Elite “Beltway Republicans” are responsible for the decline of America, Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts declared Monday at the National Conservatism Conference in the nation’s capital.  The influential conservative leader directed his remarks at the gathering against the foreign policy and political compromises of some GOP politicians. “The Washington Republicans … have, for a generation, failed this republic” by not prioritizing American interests and by conceding issues to the Left, Roberts told a crowd of several hundred at the Capital Hilton hotel. “Their messages, their policies, their leadership have hurt this nation.”  Roberts said the point of Monday’s conference was to pressure such leaders to fall in lin...

Documents: CDC knew within 6 months of outbreak Covid-19 source was Wuhan, China

By Colin Aamot  | The Daily Signal Newly released documents from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveal early evidence and analysis four years ago in which U.S. government officials indicated that COVID-19 originated in Wuhan, China. These findings in the CDC documents obtained by The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, dating from about six months after the disease’s initial outbreak, are coming to light only now because of the government’s repeated delays in releasing relevant documents through the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. In addition, federal employees’ use of encrypted private messaging applications such as Signal or WhatsApp to evade records-retention requirements under the Federal Records Act has become commonpl...

Study: ‘Vast DEI bureaucracy’ negatively impacting U.S. armed forces

By Cameron Arcand | The Daily Signal Diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the U.S. military are ineffective, a new Arizona State University study suggests. The study done by the university’s Center for American Institutions argued that there is an emphasis on training new soldiers about social issues like “unconscious bias” and “intersectionality” in a way the center says runs contrary to typical American ideals. The study examined DEI plans in different sectors of the military, including DEI office staffing and education at academies like West Point. “The massive DEI bureaucracy, its training and its pseudo-scientific assessments are at best distractions that absorb valuable time and resources,” the executive summary states. “At worst they communic...

Estes: When Washington spends, you’re on the hook. You deserve to know for how much.

By Rep. Ron Estes | The Daily Signal Maybe you’ve heard that our national debt has topped $34.7 trillion. But what does that really mean for you and your family? The number is somewhat incomprehensible. To spell it out, that’s thirty-four trillion, seven hundred and twenty-five billion, eight hundred and fifty million, three hundred and twenty-three thousand, six hundred and eight dollars. That number is 14 digits long, and it grows by about $100,000 every second. If our national debt were printed in one-dollar bills, you could make 10 stacks of bills from the earth to the moon. If our national debt were in seconds, it would equate to 1,095,641 years. According to the National Geophysical Data Center, there are just over 321 million cubic miles of water in all of the Earth’s oc...

Study: Huge percentage of EV owners want their gas cars back

By Nick Pope | The Daily Signal Nearly half of American electric vehicle owners want to buy an internal combustion engine model the next time they buy a car, according to a new study from McKinsey and Co., a leading consulting firm. Approximately 46% of Americans who own an EV want to go back to a standard vehicle for their next purchase, citing issues like inadequate charging infrastructure and affordability, according to McKinsey’s study, which was obtained and reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The study’s findings further suggest that the Biden administration’s push for electric vehicles is struggling to land with American consumers, after 46% of respondents indicated they are unlikely or very unlikely to purchase an EV in a June poll conducted by The Asso...

Supreme Court upholds ban on gun ownership by those under domestic violence court orders

By Elizabeth Troutman | The Daily Signal The Supreme Court upheld the federal law banning gun ownership by those under domestic violence restraining orders on Friday morning. In its U.S. v. Rahimi ruling, the court rejected Zackey Rahimi’s claim that the statue that prohibits the possession of firearms by persons subject to domestic violence restraining orders violates the Second Amendment. The court issued an 8-1 ruling, with Justice Clarence Thomas as the only dissenting vote. “Since the Founding, the Nation’s firearm laws have included regulations to stop individuals who threaten physical harm to others from misusing firearms,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority. “As applied to the facts here, Section 922(g)(8) fits within this tradition.” READ THE F...

Poll: Majority of Hispanics favor deporting ‘all’ illegals

By Jason Hopkins  | The Daily Signal An outright majority of Hispanic Americans are in favor of a mass deportation plan for illegal immigrants, a new survey found. Fifty-three percent of Hispanic adults approve of “a new national program to deport all undocumented immigrants currently living in the U.S. illegally,” according to a CBS/YouGov poll conducted from June 5-7. Only 47% of Hispanic respondents said they opposed such a measure, which is outside the poll’s margin of error. The political and demographic breakdown of the survey further indicated widespread support for the hypothetical mass deportation plan. In total, 62% of respondents favored deporting “all” illegal immigrants from the U.S., including a majority of men, women, independents, conservatives, moderates, ...
