Judge blocks school board from removing explicit books, saying it’s unconstitutional to follow ‘conservative values’

By Tyler O'Neil  | Daily Signal A school board in Colorado cannot remove sexually explicit, profane, and “transgender” books from school libraries because the school board is conservative, according to a federal judge touted as the first openly lesbian judge west of the Mississippi. The ACLU’s Colorado chapter filed a suit on behalf of two minors, the NAACP Wyoming State Area Conference, and the Authors Guild, claiming that the school district engaged in viewpoint discrimination when removing the books. The judge granted a preliminary injunction in March, forcing the Elizabeth School District (in Elizabeth, a suburb southeast of Denver) to restore the books. Judge Charlotte Sweeney second-guessed the school district’s objections to the books’ contents, calling the o...

Bowdey: June’s pride celebrations face a corporate retreat

By Suzanne Bowdey | Daily Signal , Commentary America is four weeks away from the LGBTQ movement’s biggest party, and companies are already RSVP’ing no. Thirty days out from Pride Month, the Left’s suffocating celebration of all things gay and trans, it’s obvious the cause’s long march through corporate America hasn’t just stalled, it’s in full-blown retreat. Just two years after Dylan Mulvaney’s catastrophic undoing of Bud Light, June’s over-the-top extremism—at least as a wholesale business concept—is dead. And taking plenty of influential mouthpieces with it. For most CEOs, it’s been a year of unprecedented realignment. Dozens of major brands are following up on their commitments to drop DEI and progressive political causes with news that they’ll no longer be spo...

Children ‘Do not belong to government,’ Education Dept. warns Colorado on transgender bill

By Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell  | Daily Signal As Colorado lawmakers consider a bill that would take custody rights away from parents who diverge from transgender orthodoxy, the Trump administration’s Education Department says that children aren’t the property of the government. “Children do not belong to the government. They belong to parents,” Education Department spokeswoman Julie Hartman told The Daily Signal. The Colorado House of Representatives passed a bill April 6 that would remove kids from parents’ custody for behaviors such as “misgendering” and “deadnaming” a transgender-identifying child. The bill has yet to progress in the Colorado Senate. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY SIGNAL

House approves SAVE Act election integrity measure

By Jacob Adams | Daily Signal The House of Representatives on Thursday approved the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act 220-208. Four House Democrats broke ranks and joined 216 Republicans to pass the election integrity measure, while 208 Democrats voted against it. The four Democrats who sided with the GOP were Reps. Jared Golden of Maine, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington state, Henry Cuellar of Texas, and Ed Case of Hawaii. The SAVE Act is designed to help reduce voter fraud by prohibiting states from registering individuals to vote in federal elections unless they first prove that they are American citizens with approved documentation. It also makes it a crime to register someone who does not provide proof of American citizenship, and it orders state...

Progressives keep Wisconsin Supreme Court; more Democrat US House seats likely

By Jacob Adams | Daily Signal Wisconsin residents voted on Tuesday to elect Susan Crawford as the next member of their state supreme court, according to the Associated Press, which declared Crawford the winner. The vote will put the liberals in charge of the state’s highest court during a time when the court’s decisions on congressional redistricting in the state could very well lead to more House seats for Democrats. While Wisconsin judicial races are nominally nonpartisan, the official backing of political parties for both candidates left little doubt about how they would be making their rulings if seated on the court.  READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY STORY

Trump and Macron plan to share ‘burden of securing the peace’ in Ukraine

By Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell  | Daily Signal French President Emmanuel Macron agrees that Europe must join the United States in bearing the “cost and burden of securing the peace” between Russia and Ukraine, President Donald Trump said Monday. Macron and Trump met on the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which Trump said “would never have happened if I was president” in February 2022. “Europe must take that central role in assuring the long-term security of Ukraine, which they want to do,” Trump said. “And that’s not a very big step. A big step is what’s going to happen over the next few weeks.” READ THE FULL STORY AT THE DAILY SIGNAL

AG Pam Bondi represented Colorado mom Erin Lee in case against Poudre school district that tried to secretly transition daughter

By Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell | | Daily Signal One of Pam Bondi’s clients says the newly-confirmed U.S. attorney general took her case suing the school district that tried to secretly transition her daughter when no one else would consider it. In 2021, Erin Lee’s 12-year-old daughter was invited by her art teacher to come to art club after school in the Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado. Little did Lee know, it was a Gay Straight Awareness club where a guest speaker told her daughter if she’s “not 100% comfortable in her female body, she’s transgender.” The 12-year-old girl, who was new to the middle school, then adopted a transgender identity and was affirmed by the art club. The guest speaker, Kimberly Chambers, director of SPLASH Youth, an LGBT g...

Bluey: Lee Zeldin hits the ground running at Environmental Protection Agency

By Rob Bluey | Commentary, Daily Signal Two years after a train derailment exposed residents of East Palestine, Ohio, to hazardous chemicals, the new leader of the Environmental Protection Agency is making the village his first official visit Monday. Lee Zeldin, a former New York congressman from Long Island, won his Senate confirmation vote Wednesday afternoon, spent Thursday and Friday meeting with agency employees, and now heads with Vice President JD Vance to the Ohio community still reeling from the catastrophic train crash on Feb. 3, 2023.
