Montana governor urges gunmakers to ditch Colorado after new weapons ban

By Alec Schemmel | Fox News FIRST ON FOX: GOP Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte is launching a video campaign to remind gun manufacturers in Colorado that if they move just a few hundred miles to the north, they can be free of one of the nation's most restrictive gun control bills signed into law earlier this month in their state. "Do you want to move back to America?" Gianforte is asking Colorado gunmakers, after Democratic Gov. Jared Polis signed S.B. 25-003 into law earlier this month. The new law, which is slated to go into effect in August 2026, effectively bans the manufacture, sale or purchase of semi-automatic firearms that accept detachable magazines, which include most AR-15s and AK-47 rifles sold in the United States. Some tactical shotguns and a few select handguns wi...

Bureaucracy vs. 2A rights? SB25-003 awaits Polis’ pen

By Heather Willard | Fox31 News DENVER (KDVR) — On Friday, the Colorado Senate voted to concur with amendments adopted by the House on a bill that Democrat legislators have touted as a way to “fully implement and enforce Colorado’s existing high-capacity magazine prohibition.” That means the bill is now headed to Gov. Jared Polis’ desk where he could sign the measure into law. The bill would require anyone in Colorado after Aug. 1, 2026, to have a permit and complete firearm safety training to purchase semiautomatic firearms that accept detachable magazines. The bill would also prevent any sales of rapid-fire conversion devices, which allow the user of a semiautomatic gun to treat it more like a fully automatic weapon. These devices include bump stocks and binary trigger...

SB25-003, the $27 million paywall on the Second Amendment

By Jen Schumann | Contributing Writer, Rocky Mountain Voice It started at 8:00 a.m. By the time the clock neared 10:00 p.m., Colorado House Democrats had passed a bill critics say is the most economically discriminating gun control law in state history. SB25-003 cleared second reading on March 21, advancing despite fierce Republican resistance. Over the course of over 12 hours, GOP lawmakers argued that the bill sets up a pay-to-play structure that burdens working-class Coloradans, rural sheriffs and law-abiding gun owners with costs, bureaucracy and uncertainty. “Senate Bill three has passed second reading. It’s unfortunate for Coloradans, but you need to know the Colorado House Republicans put up a valiant fight for your Second Amendment rights,” Rep. Ty Winter said. https:/...

Fifth Circuit declares age restrictions on adult handgun purchases unconstitutional

By Christina van Waasbergen  | Courthouse News Service A Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals panel ruled Thursday that a decades-old federal law banning handgun purchases by 18 to 20-year-olds violates the Second Amendment. The ruling is an about-face from a prior ruling where the appeals court initially found the law constitutional in 2012. The three-judge panel attributed the switch up to the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark 2022 decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen, which held that gun restrictions must be consistent with the historical tradition of firearm regulation in the U.S. "Ultimately, the text of the Second Amendment includes eighteen-to-twenty-year-old individuals among 'the people' whose right to keep and bear arms is protected. The fed...

Garbo: Senate Bill 25-003 is a blatant assault on the 2nd Amendment and small business

By C. J. Garbo | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice The introduction of Colorado’s Senate Bill 25-003, which seeks to prohibit the manufacture, distribution, transfer, sale and purchase of "specified semiautomatic firearms" and "rapid-fire devices," is nothing short of a direct assault on the 2nd Amendment. This misguided bill not only undermines the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens, but also threatens the economic livelihoods of small businesses across Colorado. At its core, this legislation represents a dangerous precedent — the government deciding which constitutionally protected items are deemed permissible for public ownership. The language in the bill is alarmingly broad, targeting semiautomatic rifles, shotguns and even gas-operated semiautomatic handg...

Rep. Thomas Massie, the 2024 keynote to RMGO, notes irony of President Biden pardon

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice In the wake of President Joe Biden pardoning his son, Hunter, for a variety of criminal offenses, including the unlawful purchase of a firearm, one 2nd Amendment advocate familiar to gun-owning Coloradans noted the irony. U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Kentucky, who was the keynote speaker this year at the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners' annual banquet, called upon Biden to expand the pardon in an effort for equal application of the law. "Since Joe Biden thinks a particular gun law shouldn’t be enforced for his son Hunter Biden, he should pardon everyone who’s been prosecuted under that same provision," Massey wrote on Twitter/X. https://twitter.com/RepThomasMassie/status/1863693757469659314 In addition to his role this year with RMGO, Massie ...

Biden-Harris admin declares ‘it’s time’ to ‘ban assault weapons’ after Kamala tries to say she’s pro-2A

By Thomas Stevenson| The Post Millennial Despite Vice President Kamala Harris sending the message throughout her 2024 campaign that she is pro-Second Amendment, the Biden-Harris administration has declared that now is the time to "ban" so-called "assault weapons." The Biden-Harris White House account posted on social media on Wednesday, "It's time" with a graphic saying "ban assault weapons."   Harris, however, has tried to paint herself as a supporter of gun rights since she has hit the campaign trail. In her 60 minutes interview: “I have a Glock and I’ve had it for quite some time,” Harris said. “My background is in law enforcement, so there you go.” She was then asked if she fired it ever, to which Harris laughed, claiming, “Yes, of course I have, at a shooting ...

Gov. Polis signs four gun-control bills destined for legal challenges by pro-gun advocates

By CBS 11 News Colorado's governor signed four gun control bills Friday, following the lead of other states struggling to confront a nationwide surge in violent crime and mass shootings, despite a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that expanded Second Amendment rights. Before the ink was even dry on Gov. Jared Polis' signature, gun rights groups sued to reverse two of the measures: raising the buying age for any gun from 18 to 21, and establishing a three-day waiting period between the purchase and receipt of a gun. The courts are already weighing lawsuits over such restrictions in other states. READ THE FULL STORY AT CBS 11 NEWS

In response to likely anti-gun Harris presidency and shooting of Trump, firearm sales jump

By Paul Bedard | Washington Examiner, via Colorado Politics Gun sales turned up for the first time in nearly a year after last month’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump and promises of firearm bans from Vice President Kamala Harris following her anointment as the Democratic presidential nominee. While still high historically, sales month over month had slowed until the shooting and elevation of Harris, who selected liberal gun-grabber Tim Walz, the Minnesota governor, as her running mate on Tuesday. Gun sellers told Secrets that the combo has led to a sales spike and raised fears among owners. “Business picked up a few percentage points at the end of July into early August, and I think we can thank Kamala Harris and the Democrat Par...

Second attempt at proposal to give marijuana users concealed-carry gun rights fails to make ballot

By Thomas Mitchell | Westword A proposed initiative that would have given concealed-carry rights to marijuana users won't appear on the November ballot, according to the Colorado Secretary of State's Office. Organizers for the campaign had until August 5 to turn in the 124,238 signatures needed for the initiative to qualify for the election. Although three other campaigns submitted signatures right before the deadline, Initiative 147: Criteria for Obtaining Concealed Handgun Permit wasn't one of them. The initiative, pushed by Colorado-based Guns for Everyone, would have removed marijuana from the "unlawful use" category on concealed handgun permit applications. Guns for Everyone attempted a similar ballot push in 2016 but failed to gather enough signatures tha...
