Fankhauser remembered as fierce advocate for beef industry

Terry Fankhauser, among the state’s greatest advocates for the cattle industry, is being remembered by cattle raisers and dignitaries in Colorado for his unwavering devotion. Fankhauser died Monday, Jan. 29, following complications from a heart surgery. For more than two decades, he served as the executive vice president of the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association, retiring in 2022 to return to the family’s farm in Kansas. GAO: USDA needs to improve tracking of foreign farmland ownership

Hagstrom Report  | SOURCE: THE FENCE POST The Agriculture Department needs to collect, track, and better share data on foreign farmland ownership, but needs more money from Congress to do that, the Government Accountability Office said in a report released Thursday. GAO complained that USDA annually compiles its data from paper forms filed with headquarters or county offices, but Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has said that to make the system more accurate counties across the country would need to develop detailed systems to report to USDA.
