Colorado Schools Face New Reality as Student Enrollment Keeps Falling

Brambila | The Denver Gazette Colorado public schools went from adding roughly 3,500 students a year before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to losing nearly 4,000 students a year afterward. As more than 870,000 Colorado students return to the classroom for another school year, they are part of a shrinking population since enrollment peaked in 2019. Colorado has 40,000 fewer students today than it did at its apex. The Denver Gazette compared districts’ average annual enrollment gains or losses in the five years before and after the pandemic to identify where enrollment trends changed the most. 2 Colorado School Districts Close as Nationwide Shutdown Tied to Immigration Protests Disrupts Staffing

By Parker Gordon | KDVR DENVER (KDVR) — Aurora Public Schools and Adams County School District 14 will not have classes on Friday due to a high number of staff absences, the same day as a planned nationwide shutdown. A planned national shutdown is also scheduled for Friday to show solidarity with Minnesota, and against actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The shutdown calls for supporters to stay home from work and school, and not to shop to “stop funding ICE.” In addition to APS and ACSD 14, some Denver Public Schools will be on a two-hour delay Friday while MI and AN Center programs and Early Childhood Education programs will not have school. Aurora School Resource Supervisor Arrested in Federal Child Exploitation Probe

By Jack Lowenstein | CBS Colorado Aurora Police Sgt. Aaron Bunch was arrested Wednesday after a warrant was served at a Denver home. Bunch faces charges for online sexual exploitation of a child, both Aurora Police Department and FBI Denver confirmed. According to APD's press release, Bunch was being investigated and subsequently arrested by FBI's "Child Exploitation Task Force" for charges that involve the electronic exchange of child exploitation material through the internet. The FBI confirmed a search warrant was being served at a home in the evening related to the case in a Denver community west of Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.
