Colorado GOP Chooses Software Engineer Craig Steiner to Lead Party Recovery

By: Colette Bordelon | Denver7 Craig Steiner replaced Brita Horn as the new chair of the Colorado Republican party after Horn resigned from her position before her term ended. EL PASO COUNTY — The Colorado Republican Party has found their next leader, after the last chair of the party resigned from the role early amid a "tremendous divide" in the party. The former chair, Brita Horn, left the position in April, saying "under the continued threat of further division, legal attacks, and escalation within our party, it has become clear that those intent on prolonging this conflict will not stop." Craig Steiner was selected as the new chair of the Colorado GOP. In that role, he told Denver7 he will work to elect more Republicans and try to unite the party, whi...

Colorado Republican Party Chair Brita Horn Plans April Exit After Year Of Party Infighting

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics Colorado Republican Party Chair Brita Horn said Thursday that she will resign her position next month following the GOP’s state assembly, citing what she described as an “enduring divide” within the party “marked by vitriol and hostility.” Horn’s announcement came just over a week after the Republicans’ state central committee voted overwhelmingly to approve a measure expressing “no-confidence” in her leadership. An earlier central committee meeting organized by Horn’s critics approved an identical “no-confidence” resolution and demanded her resignation. The meeting, which Horn dismissed as “illegal” and lacking authority, also sought to restrict her spending authority and require that the party end litigation involvi...

GOP Chair Horn: President Trump delivered in 100 days – now Colorado Conservatives must lead the charge

By Brita Horn | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice “We will close the border. We will stop the invasion of illegals into our country,” President Trump said at an Aurora, Colorado, rally on October 12, 2024. That promise was central to his push for a second term. Now, just over 100 days in, he’s delivering – tightening the border and reversing years of neglect. The previous administration under President Joe Biden left a legacy of border chaos. Millions of illegal immigrants crossed into the United States, overwhelming not only border communities but also cities and states far from the frontier. Colorado has become a hotspot in the fight against organized crime and trafficking.  In Aurora, Tren de Aragua gang members were arrested after violent apartment takeovers. I...

Horn: Empowering Republican candidates in order to win elections

By Brita Horn | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice The main facet of the Colorado Republican Party is to help elect Republican candidates across the entire state. As the next leader of that party, my commitment to help elect Republican candidates is not an empty promise and I wanted to outline our plan, our commitment to candidates, with you. First, we will support our incumbents in vulnerable seats by sending a $20,475 check to our CU regents, district attorneys, state board of education members, and state representatives or $28,375 for state senators, the maximum contributions allowed by law. We will send these checks from closest in the prior election to least vulnerable for any incumbent whose election was within five percentage points in the prior election. We are committ...

Brita Horn announces she will seek chair of Colorado Republican Party

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Brita Horn, a former Routt County treasurer, a fire chief and grassroots and civic leader, has announced her candidacy for chair of the Colorado Republican Party. “This is about the future,” Horn said in a campaign press release. She noted a desire to lead the party with “three key priorities: relationships, resources and responsibility." She will focus on victories at the ballot box in 2026, the release reads. "Colorado Republicans have a bright future, but only if we unite, collaborate and focus on winning elections,” Horn said. As chair, she would build relationships with future candidates, donors, volunteers, activists and the public at large, ensuring the party has the resources necessary to support these candidates and responsi...

If the chairman were to be removed, who leads the Colorado GOP? These three say they can

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice BRIGHTON -- If the Central Committee were to clean house at Colorado Republican Party headquarters and remove all state officers, as has been proposed by a faction of the committee, who might assume leadership? A non-meeting "rally" at Faith Fellowship Church here on Saturday, July 27, may have begun to answer that question. In fact, a couple committee members in attendance proposed they had found all three officers -- those candidates to become chairman who stayed to participate in an impromptu question-and-answer session. Those candidates were Eli Bremer, Richard Holtorf and Brita Horn. Also seeking the chairmanship is Steven Peck. "I would argue I might not make a very good secretary, if you look at my notes today," Holtorf joked with the ...
