Democrats Sound Alarm Over “Secret” ICE Facilities Publicly Listed Online

By: Natalie Chuck | Denver7 Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen is joining the chorus of Democratic leaders demanding answers from ICE. DENVER — Several Democratic politicians in Colorado are sounding the alarm over what they call "secret" ICE facilities after an online news outlet published an article last week. But are they really a secret? On Wednesday, Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen took to multiple social media platforms, expressing her concerns over "secret ICE holding cells." In her posts, Rep. Pettersen attributed her claims to the Colorado Times Recorder, which posted an article saying U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained people for weeks at a time in "secretive" facilities. The Recorder's article was written an...

High Court Says Congress Holds Tariff Power Drawing Fast Response From Colorado Lawmakers

By Brooke Williams | KDVR DENVER (KDVR) — The Supreme Court on Friday struck down a bulk of President Trump’s sweeping tariffs on imports from many foreign trading partners. The Supreme Court justices ruled 6-3 that his expanded use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs without Congressional approval was unlawful. The act gives the sitting president authority to regulate various economic transactions after declaring a national emergency, according to Congress.gov. Trump is the first president to attempt to invoke the act to impose tariffs. “Changes in the use of IEEPA powers since the act’s enactment in 1977, including its use to impose tariffs on imports from almost all countries in 2025, have caused some Membe...

Colorado Ballot Push Aims To Redraw Maps And Diminish GOP Representation

By Caitlyn Kim | CPR News The group Coloradans for a Level Playing Field wants to put an initiative on the 2026 ballot that would allow the state to draw new Congressional maps for 2028 and 2030. If voters approve, the state would join the redistricting tit-for-tat going on across the country after President Donald Trump urged Texas to redraw its congressional map to help Republicans retain control of the House in 2026. Several other Red and Blue states have followed or plan on following suit, such as Missouri, North Carolina, California and Virginia. “No one wanted to have to take this action,” said Curtis Hubbard, spokesperson for Coloradans for a Level Playing Field, adding independent commissions that make such decisions are ideal. “But with Donald Trump and his MA...

Colorado Congresswoman Reveals Ongoing Democratic Effort to Target Trump

According to Pettersen’s office, nearly 8,000 Coloradans were on the call, which featured the congresswoman talking about the need to fight against the Trump administration on issues like immigration enforcement.  “As Trump escalates attacks on Colorado and unlawfully withholds critical funding, sends ICE into our state to terrorize communities, and threatens our NATO allies abroad — I want people to know that we are here to support them in every way we can and they are not alone,” she said during the townhall. “I will continue to fight back against the cruelty and ...

Brittany Pettersen on X on Wednesday afternoon. “Truly unimaginable that this is happening in the United States of America where freedom and democracy and the rule of law were the envy of the world. “None of us can stand on the sidelines while this is happening. My office will be following their case and getting additional information,” Pettersen continued. “We are available to submit inquiries to ICE on your behalf if you or a loved one are detained.” ...

ICE Labels Democrat Lawmakers’ Oversight Claims “Completely Absurd”

By Brandon Richard | Denver7 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has responded to criticism the agency received from members of Colorado’s Democratic delegation following a tour of an Aurora detention facility Monday, accusing the lawmakers of demanding special treatment and “making up lies.” Representatives Jason Crow (CO-6), Brittany Pettersen (CO-7), Joe Neguse (CO-2) and Diana DeGette (CO-1) paid a visit to the ICE facility Monday, claiming they faced obstacles in conducting routine oversight. Crow claimed an “unacceptable” lack of transparency during the tour, which was granted three weeks after the congressman said he was denied access for an unannounced visit. ICE on Tuesday pushed back on those claims in a statement to Denver7 political reporter Brandon Richard. ...
