Senate Approves $70 Billion Immigration Enforcement Funding Package

By Caitlyn Kim | NPR News This story was produced as part of the Colorado Capitol News Alliance. It first appeared at cpr.org. The U.S. Senate passed an approximately $70 billion funding bill for federal immigration enforcement, without any reforms, early Friday morning, 52-47. Colorado Sen. John Hickenlooper voted against the measure, while Sen. Michael Bennet missed the final passage vote and the preceding 18-hour marathon of back-to-back amendment votes known as a “vote-a-rama.” Instead, Bennet was back in Denver, where he hit the gubernatorial debate stage Thursday night for what he hopes will be his next job. A Bennet spokesperson noted that Bennet had returned to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday and filed amendments to the reconciliation bill. “When it ...

Johnson Signals New Budget Package Could Advance SAVE America Act

By Cameron Arcand | Townhall The next reconciliation bill will have a focus on mismanagement of taxpayer dollars, Speaker Mike Johnson proclaimed on Wednesday. Johnson also previously said the House could potentially add on the SAVE America Act, which already passed the House but struggles to make it out of the Senate due to the 60-vote threshold, he told Fox News on Saturday. https://twitter.com/BasedMikeLee/status/2060757504217493706?s=20 “Republicans are really proud of our work to address fraud, waste, and abuse in government, as you know, and we continue to go forward that we're going to have a third reconciliation bill that comes up in the coming weeks, and you'll see further attention to it paid there,” the speaker said at a news conference on Wednesday...

New Federal Reforms Target Billions In State Fraud And Waste

By Christopher Jacobs | Commentary, The Federalist A recent congressional hearing showed the scope of the state waste, fraud, and abuse problem our nation faces. A recurring theme of public policy — one that leftists often ignore — is how people respond to incentives. If the federal government runs programs that give individuals carte blanche to steal, then some unscrupulous actors will exploit those weaknesses to do so. But those incentives go beyond individuals and also extend to the fight against waste, fraud, and abuse. In many cases, states have taken little action to crack down on fraud and waste within government programs because the federal government provides the bulk of the funding for said programs. If Washington gives states a blank check regardless of wh...

President Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ clears Senate with Vance’s tie-breaking vote

By Daniel Chaitin | Daily Wire Now the measure heads back to the House. President Donald Trump scored another major legislative victory on Tuesday with the GOP-led Senate narrowly passing “One Big, Beautiful Bill” with the help of Vice President JD Vance, keeping alive the prospect of Congress getting the centerpiece measure to his desk by Independence Day. The 900-page-plus bill, which aims to fulfill many of Trump’s spending and tax-cut goals for his second term, triumphed in a 51-50 vote after a marathon “vote-a-rama” session on amendments and intense deliberations between members during which leadership managed to win over just enough Republicans to get the measure over the finish line. Because the bill is making its way through Congress through the budget reconciliation pr...
