Children’s Hospital Restores Gender Care Services but Doctors Decline to Provide Treatment

By Jennifer Brown | The Colorado Sun Children’s Hospital Colorado was forced to resume gender-affirming care through a court order, but the doctors who work there won’t do it. Children’s Hospital Colorado said Monday that it was resuming gender-affirming care for transgender youth after it was forced to do so by a court order, but that none of its doctors are willing to actually provide the care.  The announcement means the hospital is complying with the court order and yet, transgender kids and teens will not get care from the doctors who work at Children’s TRUE Center for Gender Diversity, a clinic that provides prescriptions for hormone therapy and puberty blockers. The Aurora hospital does not perform gender-affirming surgeries for patients under 18 and never has...

Colorado Supreme Court Orders Hospital To Resume Transgender Treatments For Minors

By Michael Karlik | Colorado Politics The Colorado Supreme Court, by a 5-2 vote, ordered Children’s Hospital Colorado on Monday to resume providing certain medical services to a group of transgender plaintiffs, which it had ceased in the face of funding threats from the federal government last year. The unusual appeal before the Supreme Court stemmed from a trial judge’s rejection of a preliminary injunction to four trans plaintiffs who are minors seeking treatment from Children’s Colorado. The plaintiffs filed a class action alleging that the cessation of services based on their status violates the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act. While multiple considerations inform whether a judge should grant an injunction, the Supreme Court’s majority concluded the plaintiffs wer...

Colorado Supreme Court Confronts Trans Care Dispute With Federal Funding at Stake

By Michael Karlik | Colorado Politics Some members of the Colorado Supreme Court expressed discomfort on Tuesday with having to decide whether to order Children’s Hospital Colorado to resume providing certain services to transgender children, which could trigger a “death sentence” if the federal government imposes consequences. “I’m assuming there’s no middle ground here with the federal administration, in terms of letting the patients who are already in treatment complete their treatment but just not take on any new patients for gender-affirming care?” asked Justice Carlos A. Samour Jr. during oral arguments. There is not, responded the hospital’s lawyer. “We believe that the care can be provided safely and effectively,” added attorney Patrick O’Rourke. “But ul...

Colorado Mom Urges Caution for Parents After Son’s Hormone Treatment

By Neeraja Deshpande | IW Features A Colorado mother trusted the medical “experts” when they prescribed her teenage son estrogen. Now she urges parents to reject gender ideology claims outright and reclaim authority from ideologues. But Michael had already fallen deep into the trenches of gender ideology, possibly with the help of his Denver-area school.  Thinking they would “put the brakes on this,” Burns said she and her husband took Michael to a therapist in their network at a Kaiser Permanente clinic. Unfortunately, then unbeknownst to the Burnses, Kaiser Permanente is one of the greatest offenders in the gender ideology space, having spearheaded medical experimentation on gender-confused minors both as an insurer and as a clinical provider of ca...

Federal Court Opens Records in Colorado Dispute Over Gender Treatment Inquiry

By Michael Karlik | Colorado Politics A federal judge ordered last month that the public be able to access the filings in Children’s Hospital Colorado’s legal challenge to a U.S. Department of Justice subpoena seeking a broad range of documents about patients, employees and communications. Children’s Colorado sought to keep its case shielded from public view, arguing that disclosing the details of the Justice Department’s request would traumatize patients and providers who work with puberty blockers and hormone treatments — the subject of the government’s request for documents. But in a Nov. 17 order, U.S. Magistrate Judge Cyrus Y. Chung noted the subpoena’s existence and the nature of services Children’s Colorado provides were already matters of public record. ...

Teen survivor of Evergreen High shooting finally returns home after weeks in hospital

By Jesse Sarles | CBS News Children's Hospital Colorado says one of the teens who was being cared for at their hospital and was seriously injured in the shooting last month at Evergreen High School has returned home. Doctors released the 14-year-old from the hospital on Tuesday. For privacy reasons, the teenager's family is choosing to keep his identity anonymous. A student shot and injured two people at the school in Colorado's foothills on Sept. 10. That shooter later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Last Thursday, the family of the teen released a statement saying he has undergone several surgeries and has a "long and difficult journey of recovery" ahead. They said their son was shot "at close range" while he was confronting the gunman with anoth...

Trump DOJ Subpoenas Colorado Hospital in Gender Care Investigation

By John Ingold | The Colorado Sun Children’s Hospital Colorado, the state’s largest pediatric specialty hospital, has received a subpoena from the U.S. Department of Justice as part of an apparent investigation into gender-affirming care for transgender youth. The hospital received the subpoena this week. It did not disclose the contents or say whether the subpoena seeks patient records. “We are engaging outside counsel and evaluating it to determine how we should respond,” the hospital wrote in a statement Thursday. The subpoena comes one month after Fox News, citing an anonymous source, reported that the DOJ had opened an investigation into three children’s hospitals across the country, including Children’s Hospital Colorado. The others were Boston Children’s Hospital and Chi...
