Congress Moves Toward Ending Shutdown After Weeks of Gridlock

By: Jordain Carney | Politico The framework lawmakers agreed to Sunday night would not guarantee an extension of the expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits. The Senate voted to break the shutdown stalemate Sunday, paving the way for the government to reopen as soon as later this week. The 60-40 vote to take the first step toward ending the shutdown came hours after enough Democrats agreed to support a package that would fund multiple agencies and programs for the full fiscal year, and all others until Jan. 30, 2026. In exchange, Democrats have a commitment from the Trump administration to rehire government workers fired at the start of the funding lapse, and the promise of a Senate floor vote in December on legislation to extend expiring Obamacare tax credits. In the end...

GOP’s Thune Slams Schumer for ‘Political Games’ Amid SNAP Funding Crisis

By Ramsey Touchberry | Washington Examiner An animated Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) unleashed on Democrats on Wednesday over food stamp funding that’s set to run dry on Nov. 1 due to the government shutdown. The normally mild-mannered Midwesterner shouted a deluge of criticism on the floor against Democrats for seeking to pass a stand-alone measure for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other federal food aid after having opposed a “clean” GOP stopgap bill 13 times in recent weeks to reopen the government. “SNAP recipients shouldn’t go without food. People should be getting paid in this country. And we tried to do that 13 times! You voted ‘no’ 13 times!” Thune charged on the shutdown’s 29th day. “This isn’t a political gam...

Pam Bondi Turns the Tables on Senate Democrats in Fiery Judiciary Hearing

By Matt Vespa | Commentary, Townhall Attorney General Pam Bondi came out swinging today during her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee. The Democrats' plan was clear from the start: to distract and divert from their government shutdown, lawlessness in cities, rogue judges, and the death and destruction Joe Biden's open border policies unleashed. Pam Bondi was having none of it and continuously brought the conversation back to what Democrats tried to avoid. It’s one of those things: Democrats need to shift the focus on who’s to blame to mask their incompetence. She came prepared, bringing a gun to the Democrats’ knife fight. When liberal media reporters admit that she was cooking Democrats, you know it’s bad. Before we get to her taking these clowns to the cleaners, let’s ...

From border hawks to benefit brokers: How Democrats flipped on illegal immigration

By Brian C. Joondeph | Commentary, American Thinker Let's waltz through the decades with Chuck Schumer, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and Joe Biden, comparing their former stern warnings with their current soft-shoe routines. Buckle up, because this flip-flop parade will be an inconvenient sashay through their past statements. Back in 1996, Senator Chuck Schumer was the sheriff of congressional fiscal responsibility, wielding his gavel like a six-shooter. “People say, why can't you stop illegal immigrants from coming here? The number one answer we give our constituents is when they come here, they can get jobs, get benefits against the law because of fraud,” he declared during a U.S. House session. Fast forward to 2025. Last week, Schumer and his caucus sh...

Chuck Schumer on the wrong side of Democrats

By MIG Reports Key Takeaways: Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is facing sharp criticism within his own party for voting with Republicans on the CR to prevent government shutdown. A significant 80% of Democratic discussion about Schumer’s vote on the CR is negative, with 70% of overall discussion among Democrats also negative. Republicans are taking the opportunity to claim a narrative win as Democrats continue to struggle with the future direction and leadership of their party.  Chuck Schumer backed the Republican-led Continuing Resolution (CR) to prevent a government shutdown, causing a political firestorm in his own party. Normally a routine funding measure, the CR exposes fractures in Democratic ranks, raises questions about Schumer’s leadership, and gives Rep...

Chuck Schumer will vote to keep government open: ‘For Donald Trump, a shutdown would be a gift’

By  Stepheny Price , Julia Johnson , Kelly Phares , Megan Tome | Fox News Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., says he will vote to keep the government open, warning that a shutdown has worse consequences for Americans and would only empower President Donald Trump and Elon Musk further. "I believe it is my job to make the best choice for the country to minimize the harms to the American people. Therefore, I will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down," Schumer said while speaking on the Senate floor on Thursday.  The Democratic leader rattled off a list of reasons he disagrees with the House-passed stopgap spending bill, but added, "I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option." ...

Karoline Leavitt blasts ‘irresponsible’ Chuck Schumer for blaming Delta plane crash on Donald Trump

By Emily Crane | New York Post White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has blasted Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for suggesting President Trump was partly to blame for the Delta Air Lines jet that crash-landed and flipped over in Toronto, Canada. Leavitt ripped the Democratic lawmaker just hours after he appeared to link Monday’s disastrous Delta landing to the president’s recent cuts to the Federal Aviation Administration’s workforce. “It’s incredibly irresponsible for Chuck Schumer to say such a thing when the investigation is still underway,” the press sec told Fox News’ “America Reports” late Tuesday.
