Temper, temper

By Mark Salley | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice The Left is having a temper tantrum over America250. The babysitters spent the last 10 to 20 years…letting the children do exactly what they wanted. The children didn’t like mommy’s and daddy’s rules. So the babysitters, rather than enforcing the time-tested rules, let the children break them. And, break the rules they did. They left behind civility, honesty and responsibility. The leftist babysitters chose not to reign-in or teach the children. They decided, not merely, to let the children break all the rules…but not to punish the rulebreakers! No more “time outs” in the corner. No more going to bed without dinner. No more having to apologize and accept responsibility for wrongdoing. The children learned…”just do what yo...

Education Without Virtue Is a Danger to the Republic of the United States of America

By Mark Lewis | Commentary, Townhall I think we would all agree that education is one of the most important facets of any society. I'm not just talking about "going to school"; there is much more to education than that. Education can even begin in the womb, and takes off from birth. Everything we are surrounded by "educates" us, in one way or another—for good or ill. Not all education is "good." It should be unnecessary to say that. People can only know and act upon what they have been taught. If people don't know what "freedom" and "tyranny" are—and the source of both—then they will not know how to protect the former and guard against the latter. "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6). "My people have gone into captivity, because they have...

The Bill of Rights was written to limit power. One civics lesson explains how.

By Jen Schumann | Rocky Mountain Voice “I observed… the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer,” Ben Franklin. Bill of Rights Day is often marked with references to free speech, due process and other familiar rights. Less attention is paid to the reason those protections exist at all: to place clear limits on government power. That question sits at the center of a handwritten civics lesson now being shared among homeschool students, one that walks through how the Constitution was designed to restrict government authority, including economic decision-making. Susie Dean, a homeschool civic...

NYC Will Learn That Socialism Doesn’t Work

By Russ Minary | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples’ money.”  — British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher On Tuesday, November 4, Zohran Mamdani was elected as Mayor of New York City. Mamdani is only 34, has never held a real job and openly claims to be a socialist. His Muslim faith was a major part of his campaign. In a city with a lot of Jewish citizens, he won with a majority of votes in a 3-way race. His campaign consisted mainly of a nice smile and a promise to make just about everything ‘free.’ Free transportation, groceries, housing, healthcare and childcare. But he didn’t explain who was going to pay for all of the ‘free stuff.’  NYC is about to experience one of its biggest crises, un...

EVERY Day In America Is ‘No Kings Day’—READ the U.S. Constitution

By Russ Minary | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” Mark Twain may or may not have said it, but whoever did certainly had a valid point. Today in 2025, many people seem to know a lot that just ain’t so. Over the weekend, thousands of people gathered in cities across the U.S. for a series of “No Kings” rallies and protests. The NO KINGS website lists many partner organizations including marxists, socialists, communists, anti-Americans, Democrats, progressives, radical environmentalists, abortionists, anarchists and many others that oppose the lawful Constitutional authority and order of our Republics—some of whom advocate rebellion, insurrection, violence and the overthrow of...

Government Isn’t God: Why Broken People Need More Faith, Not Bigger Bureaucracy

By Scott K. James | Commentary, ScottKJames.com America doesn’t need bigger government. It needs bigger faith. Romans 13 shows government is a servant – not the savior. Since the tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church, I’ve watched the same battle lines get drawn. The script writes itself: “Take the guns. Prayer doesn’t work. Faith isn’t enough.” It breaks my heart – not only because of the lives shattered, but because half of America’s first instinct is to strip away our God-given rights. But the answer isn’t taking things away. The answer is realizing that people are broken, and only God – not government – can heal broken people. And if the church shooting wasn’t proof enough of how far we’ve drifted, the recent Colorado General Assembly Special Session sealed it. It...

Matt Turner launches 2026 campaign for Weld County sheriff

By Trevor Reid | Greeley Tribune Turner, a captain at the agency, has been with the sheriff’s office since 2012 Since 1987, there have only been three Weld County sheriffs: Ed Jordan, John Cooke and Steve Reams. In November 2026, Matt Turner hopes to add his name to that list. “We have a rich history in Weld County of building our sheriffs in the office,” Turner said. “Not seeing that person freaks me out. So I don’t want to say I feel like I have to do this, but I don’t see anybody else. And I want to make sure the sheriff’s office is taken care of.” Turner lists five primary things he plans to focus on if he is elected as the 40th sheriff of Weld County. First, he wants to attack what he believes is at the root of just about every crime: drugs. “All crime has a ...

Waltz: What our nation’s founders didn’t foresee—and the Left is exploiting

By Jim Waltz | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice This summer’s news reported in the media is focused on the fierce opposition to the deportation of illegal immigrants. The persistent rioting drains federal and state resources from their duty to uphold the law, including the removal of illegal immigrants present in our country. Removing residents from any locale undermines the left’s effort to alter future elections by tampering with the upcoming census. The real purpose of the left's open border advocacy is not rooted in humanitarianism (for example, Martha's Vineyard relocated about 50 immigrants, declaring their lack of resources—yet they can still accommodate some 150,000 paying tourists annually). It is an attempt to affect our Constitutional right to a census, the next t...
