Memorial Day Calls Americans To Remember The Fallen And Live With Purpose

By Mike Glover | Commentary, Substack Memorial Day means something different once you’ve buried friends. For a lot of Americans, it has become another long weekend. A kickoff to summer. Barbecues, travel plans, sales, days at the lake. And there’s nothing wrong with families spending time together. In fact, that freedom is exactly what generations of American warriors fought to preserve. But Memorial Day was never intended to be casual. It is a day rooted in sacrifice. Not service in general. Not patriotism in the abstract. Not politics. Sacrifice. It is the remembrance of men who never came home. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that one of the greatest responsibilities we carry as the living is the responsibility to remember and share the stories of those ...

Colorado Churches Growing Again Driven By Younger Generations

By Mark Samuelson | The Denver Gazette If churchgoing ever hit a low point in American history, it would have been exactly six years ago, just as the year 2020 arrived. Late the previous year, a widely publicized Pew Research study had documented an ongoing erosion of Christianity and of general religious identity in the U.S. The tally of Americans who identified as Christian, the research said, had fallen to 65% — down 12 points over a single decade. Moreover, those identifying as atheist, agnostic or as “nones” had climbed to 26%. The unconformity widened further by age groups, older to younger. Then COVID-19 arrived, with public health orders by governments effectively closing down places of worship, along with schools, businesses and other public buildings. In Colorado, ...

The empty pail: The first step up the mountain

By Drake Hunter | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”~ Matthew 4:17 ~ “Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water…” Continuing with last devotion’s rhyme, we often remember the fall… but rarely ask the deeper question: What if they made it to the top… but never learned how to draw from the well? Because in the life of following Jesus, the issue is not whether we’ve started the climb—it’s whether we are being formed and becoming who we need to be as we go to do what God needs us to do. The first step toward becoming the person or leader you aspire to be is recognizing the mountain climb—the mountain of life—beginning with the one who gives life, now and always. When Jesus began His ministry, He didn’t start with a detaile...

Heaven’s Battle Plan: You’re Not Alone

By Drake Hunter | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice “It is not good for man to be alone.”~ Genesis 2:18 ~ In Colorado and especially across the Rocky Mountains, we deeply respect a trait we find truly admirable: rugged independence. It embodies the ability to stand firm on your own, work diligently, fulfill your responsibilities, and take control of your life. It’s important to recognize that this isn’t a weakness but a genuine strength. So, therefore, as I get into this devotion, I want to clarify that God is for independence—He’s the one who bestowed upon us the capacity to stand tall and be self-reliant when understood correctly. However, like many virtues, what begins as strength can slowly transform into something else—something heavier and isolating. I recall a meaningful mom...

Christmas Is More Than Tradition It Is a Claim That Changed History

By Tom Griffin | Commentary, The Daily Signal The Christmas celebration is one of joy and excitement. No matter your age there is always something special about Christmas morning and the days that follow. We know that we are a part of something unique and everlasting. Truly, Christmas reveals so much about life, faith and family. First, Christmas shows what life is about and what life’s goal is. These days are meant to invoke a sense of deep wonder. The Christian claim is that the God of the universe, who made the billions of stars and billions of galaxies—the God who knows everything about you—became man and was born of a woman. It is one thing to claim that God is real. “About nine-in-ten U.S. adults believe in God or another higher power,” according...

Good News or Fake News: Peace — Real News with Integrity

By Drake Hunter | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice If hope teaches us to look forward, then peace teaches us how to stand firm right now. But here’s the tension every Coloradan feels—especially during the holidays: We live in a culture that profits from our anxiety. Fear sells. Outrage spreads. And when everything is loud, peace is mistaken for passivity… when in reality, peace is a kind of strength, a power that shapes who you are. Therefore, the question for you is, “What source is shaping who you are—the Good News or the fake news?” Because trusting the Good News builds confidence in the peace you carry. Or in other words, PEACE is Real News with Integrity. It’s not fragile. Peace is not the absence of conflict. Simply, peace is the inner integrity of a life aligned...

Good News or Fake News: Hope — Waiting for the Real News

By Drake Hunter | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice When you look for hope, peace, joy, and love in your relationships and reality during this Advent Season, what source is shaping who you are—the Good News or the fake news? Across Colorado, the nation, and around the world, people start their day scrolling through headlines, alerts, predictions, and debates. The news cycle never stops. It rarely offers hope. But here’s a question at the start of this Advent season: How much of what influences you every day is genuine good news, and how much is cleverly disguised fake news? And here’s a more personal take: When you seek direction, identity, and meaning… are you following the real Jesus—or a version filtered and edited by the loudest voices of our time? Advent isn’t just...

Colorado mom shows what courage and conviction looks like on the campaign trail

By Nicole Hunt | Commentary, Daily Citizen I recently ran and was elected to my local school board. Running for office was a learning experience in more ways than one, but there are three important lessons I learned on the campaign trail that will stay with me for life.   When I first felt the nudge to step forward, I took time to talk to my family and pray about it. As a mother with sincere convictions, but no interest in being a career politician, I wanted to make sure the timing was right for my family. My husband and I have four children — two in high school and two in middle school. My family is the first and most important priority in my life after my faith in Jesus Christ. As we began to discuss the idea, I was encouraged by my kids who said, “Mom, you are perfect for ...

Grama’s Magnifying Glass: Refocusing the Voice of Colorado

By Drake Hunter | Commentary, RMV NE CO Newsroom, Rocky Mountain Voice While sitting in the waiting area at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, I heard the characteristic sounds of hospital life—beeping machines, nurses moving quietly, and families whispering prayers of hope. My wife, Sherrie, underwent brain surgery with advanced laser technology, prompting me to reflect on the importance of focus—its influence not just on medical results but on the core of our lives. As a boy, I often borrowed my grandmother’s magnifying glass — the one she used for reading mail, books, and sometimes the Bible and fine print. Outside in San Diego’s bright sun, where I lived during my teen years and until I joined the military, it became something different. I’d arrange dry leaves or pieces of pap...

Why American Men Are Turning Away from the Democratic Party

By John Mac Ghlionn | Commentary, The Hill The Democratic Party is hemorrhaging men. Across the U.S., they are leaving in waves — from the unions that once powered the party’s muscle, from classrooms that once echoed with idealism, and from a movement that now talks at them rather than to them. Polls show young men flocking to the right in numbers not seen for generations. The trend isn’t a blip but a brutal reckoning. And no amount of branding or beer ads will stop it. The party’s latest efforts to woo men are almost painful to watch. The Democratic National Committee has poured money into influencer partnerships, podcast cameos and clumsy “masculinity” campaigns filmed in gyms. Spokespersons drone on about “kitchen-table issues,” as if men are sitti...
