Denver Commits $5.3 Million To Turn ‘Bridge To Nowhere’ Into Stadium Connection

By Nicole C. Brambila | The Denver Gazette The “bridge to nowhere” is closer to going somewhere. The Denver City Council on Monday accepted $4 million in a state grant and committing another $1.3 million toward a pedestrian bridge at Broadway Station. When completed, the bridge over the railroads and Regional Transportation District, or RTD, connecting the Broadway RTD station with the Summit FC Soccer Stadium and Santa Fe Yards development. City Councilwoman Flor Alvidrez expressed concerns about the project, which includes widening Santa Fe Drive, a vibrant and culturally rich commercial corridor that is home to more than 100 galleries, artist co-ops, studios and street murals. “More lanes do not create a safe, connected neighborhood,” Alvidrez said. ...

New Centennial Stadium Welcomes Denver Summit and Soccer Star Lindsey Heaps

By Andrew Kenney | Denverite Lindsey Heaps also makes her highly anticipated Summit debut in the Saturday match against the Portland Thorns. Centennial Stadium will open its gates for the first time Saturday as the Denver Summit plays the Portland Thorns. The 12,000-seat stadium, which recently finished construction, is set to be the Summit’s home for at least a couple seasons. Until now, the team has been playing most of its home games in Commerce City.  Resale tickets for the debut Centennial match are available from $73. The match will stream on Paramount+ and air on CBS. The Thorns are among the National Women’s Soccer League’s best teams, with an 8-3-4 record, while the Summit lag the pack at 4-4-5. Denver Councilwoman Raises Concerns Over Taxpayer Funding For Soccer Stadium

By Daniel Boniface | The Denver Gazette A proposed Denver stadium for professional women’s soccer could be in jeopardy of receiving public funding following the city’s budget troubles and layoffs. City Councilmember Flor Alvidrez, who represents District 7 where the Denver Summit FC stadium would be built, walked back her support for the project in an interview Monday on the popular podcast, City Cast Denver, saying she was undecided on whether she’ll vote to approve a $70 million subsidy.
