New Federal Rule Requires English CDL Testing For Commercial Drivers Nationwide

By Josh Funk | KDVR All truckers and bus drivers will have to take their commercial driver’s license tests in English as the Trump administration expands its aggressive campaign to improve safety in the industry and get unqualified drivers off the road. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the latest effort Friday to ensure that drivers meet the federal requirements to understand English well enough to read road signs and communicate with law enforcement officers. Florida already started administering its tests in English. Currently, many states allow drivers to take their license tests in other languages even though they are required to demonstrate English proficiency. California offered tests in 20 other languages. Duffy said that a number of states have hir...

Colorado Risks $24M in Federal Funds as thousands of Commercial Driver’s Licenses Were Issued Illegally

By: The Associated Press | Denver7 DENVER (AP) — The head of the U.S. Department of Transportation threatened Monday to withhold $24 million in federal funding from the state of Colorado for what he described as a slow response to a major violation of federal commercial driver's license regulations. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy pointed to a nationwide audit conducted in October that found about 22% of the commercial licenses doled out by Colorado to immigrants were done so illegally, many to Mexican nationals — a practice that's prohibited under federal law. Duffy accused Colorado of “slow walking” the required purge of these licenses. He said the state has failed to complete a full audit, provide a complete accounting of affected drivers, or revoke the inv...

Rural Colorado Airports Face Flight Cuts if DC Gridlock Continues

By Shannon Ogden | Denver7 The Essential Air Service (EAS) provides federal subsidies to commercial airlines to serve small, rural airports that would not otherwise have commercial air service. DENVER — A key lifeline for rural communities may soon be cut. Small commercial airports in Colorado and nationwide may see flight cancellations if the government shutdown continues. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that funding for the Essential Air Service (EAS) would lapse Sunday if the government doesn't reopen by then. EAS provides federal subsidies to commercial airlines to serve small, rural airports that would not otherwise have commercial air service. This includes the airports in Cortez, Pueblo, and Alamosa in Colorado, as well as 174 other communities nationwide. ...

Trump closes commercial trucking loophole after deadly crashes involving illegal immigrant drivers

By Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell | The Daily Signal Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy announced a plan Friday to prevent illegal aliens from driving commercial trucks in the United States. “The process for issuing [commercial drivers’ licenses] is absolutely 100% broken,” Duffy said at a press conference. “It has become a threat to public safety, and it is a national emergency that requires action right. https://twitter.com/TheElizMitchell/status/1971572076030152982 The announcement comes after an illegal alien truck driver killed three people in a Florida traffic crash while making an illegal U-turn. He apparently was not able to understand the street signs. California had issued the commercial driver’s license. “The combination of a catastrophic failure of states t...

Pete Buttigieg’s DOT blew $80B on DEI while air traffic upgrades stalled

By Josh Christenson | New York Post WASHINGTON — Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg failed to replace outdated air traffic control systems while in office — with his agency instead shelling out tens of billions of dollars on a DEI agenda, according to federal spending records and airline industry insiders. In one meeting, Buttigieg — who is said to be eyeing a 2028 presidential run — told industry executives that air traffic control upgrades would just allow them to fly more planes, “and so why would that be in his interest?” sources said. What his department was really interested in was handing out hundreds of diversity, equity and inclusion grants totaling more than $80 billion over four years — at least half of the DOT’s entire budget for a typical fi...
