Colorado Regulators Approve Aurora Area Wells Despite Fierce Community Opposition

By Kelly Werthmann | CBS Colorado Colorado regulators on Tuesday cleared the way for a controversial oil and gas project near the Aurora Reservoir, following a yearslong battle by community members to block the plan. In a narrow 3-2 vote, the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission approved the permit for SM Energy's Sunlight-Long well development plan. The decision follows more than six hours of presentations and deliberations on Tuesday, marking the culmination of at least seven public hearings regarding the site's potential impact on the surrounding area. Developers Target Sheridan RV Park, Residents Plead for City to Protect Homes

By: Anna Coon | KDVR FOX31 SHERIDAN, Colo. (KDVR) — More than 100 people could be forced to leave their homes in Sheridan if a proposed apartment complex project moves forward. If the deal closes, the park would be cleared out to make way for new housing. Many of the RV park’s residents have made the location their permanent home. “I just don’t know the answer as to what we would do if we received an eviction notice,” said Steve Ohlfest, who has lived at Flying Saucer RV Park for 20 years. Ohlfest spent 16 years in an RV before upgrading to a tiny home in 2021. “This is our dream home. This is our dream city,” said Ohlf...

The project has two main portions: Catalyst, the city-owned project and entertainment district, will cost about $832 million, which will go toward three ice rinks, a hotel and a water park, among other costs; and Cascadia, the private residential and commercial area owned by The Water Valley Company. A Greeley City Council meeting held Sept. 2 had a lengthy public comment period, mainly focused on the Catalyst Greeley West project, that lasted for nearly an hour. Many who...
