In Elbert County, manager and attorney get 40% pay increases, with perks

By Deborah Grigsby | Colorado Politics Two of Elbert County’s top officials received contract extensions this year, each with pay raises and county-owned cars, among other perks. The Board of County Commissioners extended “Engagement of Service” contracts to County Manager Shawn Fletcher and County Attorney Bart Greer. Fletcher, who has been on the job for less than 18 months, saw a pay bump of $80,000 over his 2023 contract, bringing his annual salary to $220,000. Additionally, he gets the use of a county-owned or leased vehicle, a monthly housing allowance of $1,500, and an extra two weeks (8 days) of vacation leave above his current accrual rate. Lone Tree residents protest plans to locate new 23rd Judicial District office near Heritage Hills

By Noah Festenstein | Denver Gazette Several Lone Tree residents are pushing back against one of the proposed locations for an office that will host the brand new 23rd Judicial District, which will encompass Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties.   The new office will also offer pre-trial and probation services. The pushback from residents is directed at locating the office at One Lincoln Station, a building inside a business park just east of the Heritage Hills neighborhood. The location offers access to the E line of the Regional Transportation District rail system and Interstate 25. Gray wolf from Great Lakes population caught in coyote trap in Elbert County

By Rachel Gabel   | The Fence Post A rancher in Elbert County, Colorado, contacted Colorado Parks and Wildlife after discovering a wolf-like animal in a legal coyote trap on April 3 on a ranch in eastern Colorado.  U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service confirmed that this animal is a gray wolf from the Great Lakes wolf population. This is not a wolf from the 10 recently released by Colorado Parks and Wildlife in December 2023. As a federally listed species under the Endangered Species Act, the service is investigating this incident and is working in coordination with Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
