USPS proposal highlights risks of mail voting, says election researcher Ned Jones

By Ned Jones | Commentary, The Federalist This problems with postmarks are more reason why we should limit voting by mail to absentee voting with an excuse. The United States Postal Service has announced a proposed new section to its mailing standards that would have a major impact on the return of mail-in ballots, as it would shift the responsibility to the voter to confirm the exact receival date by the postal service. USPS realizes that with their new mail processing system, the postmark is no longer proof of the date that it received a piece of mail. Their solution is to make the customer — in the case of ballots the voter — responsible for confirming the receipt date of their piece of mail. It will be up to the voter to obtain proof of date of receipt, or without it, a ballot...

Are there too many Grumpy Old Men Voters in Colorado?

By Mike O’Donnell | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Every ten years the U.S. Census Bureau organizes a count of all the residents of the United States. This count includes citizens as well as non-citizens, and even those experiencing homelessness. The Census Bureau also provides annual updates to the decennial numbers using surveys as well as by tapping into government information they can easily access like data on births and deaths, federal tax returns, medicare enrollments, and statistics from the Social Security Administration. These annual updates serve many purposes and, in my case, one of them is to provide feedback on how accurate the Colorado voter roll is. Colorado switched to mail-in ballots in 2013 and is one of only eight states that conducts mail-in electio...

Citizen rights at risk as noncitizen voting spreads in U.S. cities

By Charlie Kolean | Commentary, Washington Examiner It may be an off-year election cycle, but the November ballot initiatives are heating up. One particular fight is fundamental to our democracy: citizen-only voting. Most people assume that to vote in the United States, one must be a U.S. citizen. But this is not the case: Only 20 state constitutions include language explicitly confirming that only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote in elections. Every other state is vulnerable to cities allowing noncitizens to vote. It is more common than people think. In Chicago, noncitizens can vote in local school council elections. In San Francisco, noncitizens can not only vote in school board elections, but also serve on City Council-appointed commissions. In Wa...

Across America States Pass New Election-Integrity Laws to Safeguard Ballot Measures

By Tom Joyce | The Daily Signal THE CENTER SQUARE—The Honest Elections Project says states made significant gains on election integrity laws in 2025. A new report from the group says eight states banned foreign funding of ballot issue campaigns this year, bringing the national total to nine. Six states also banned ranked choice voting in 2025, bringing the total to 17. Honest Elections Project Executive Director Jason Snead said states are responding to threats that undermine voter confidence. “In 2025, states across the country took extraordinary steps to ban the foreign funding of ballot issue campaigns and ranked choice voting, two of the biggest threats to election integrity and voter confidence facing the nation, and they did so in record numbers,” Snead said in a stateme...

Space Command exit shows economic cost of political games in Colorado

By Capt. Seth Keshel | Commentary, Captain K’s Corner, Substack $1 billion in economic value is moving to Northern Alabama, and there is plenty more monetary damage to dish out if Colorado wants to keep political prisoners behind bars. Economic impacts can slice like double-edged swords. Everyone who voted for President Trump last year did so knowing tariffs could cause short-term pain to some of his own voters while simultaneously strengthening an America-first economic outlook. Likewise, one state getting richer in an industry’s move across state lines means another state is getting poorer, impacting not only employees, but those engaging in peripheral business or adjacent industries. We’ve seen this over and over in the culture war with gun and ammo dealers relocating from blue to...

President Trump: Colorado’s ballot system a “big factor” in Alabama win

By Mary Shinn | The Gazette President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Space Command will move from Colorado Springs to Alabama, citing Colorado's mail-in elections as playing a role in the decision.  Space Command protects the country's interests in space, and its headquarters employs 1,700 troops across the service branches. It is separate from the Space Force, the youngest military service branch. https://www.youtube.com/live/I8DnGstg2-k?feature=shared "This decision will help America defend and dominate the high frontier," Trump said.  He noted that Huntsville is expected to play a large role in developing the new missile defense system called Golden Dome. Space Command will have a role in Golden Dome once it is operational because it is expected to rely on sat...

President Trump vows voter ID mandate through executive order

By Anders Hagstrom | Fox News President announces plan on social media along with restrictions on mail-in voting President Donald Trump says he plans to sign an executive order aimed at requiring voter ID in elections across the country. Trump made the statement on social media late Saturday night, saying he is also seeking other reforms to how U.S. elections take place.   "Voter I.D. Must Be Part of Every Single Vote. NO EXCEPTIONS! I Will Be Doing An Executive Order To That End!!! Also, No Mail-In Voting, Except For Those That Are Very Ill, And The Far Away Military. USE PAPER BALLOTS ONLY!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. Trump previously attempted to impose voter ID via an executive order earlier this year in a wider election integrity action. In April, Ju...

Doing the math on the cost of mail-in voting after 25 years

By Capt. Seth Keshel | Commentary, Captain K's Corner, Substack A statistical guide to the impacts of mail-in voting and why Democrats will make it their hill to die on. It appears, based on his recent statements, that President Trump is likely to take executive action targeting mail-in ballots and perhaps other deficiencies and disenfranchising items present in the American system of elections. As a former intelligence officer, my mind moves immediately to thinking like how the enemy thinks, and in this case, those enemies will be representatives of states that run quasi-elections tainted by mail-in balloting, which is always accompanied by ballot harvesting (whether legal or not), pushed out to an ever-expanding list of registrations polluted by Automatic Voter Registration. As ...

Democrats cry “conspiracy” as Trump appoints Heather Honey to DHS election watchdog role

By Shawn Fleetwood | Commentary, The Federalist Election systems expert Heather Honey has been sworn in at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a deputy assistant secretary, leading elections integrity for the Trump Administration, and the left is losing its mind. Honey, a long-time open-source investigator, has spent years analyzing every aspect of how elections are administered, looking for vulnerabilities that leave election systems open to exploitation. Her investigations have led to lawsuits aimed at changing or clarifying election laws in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan, Georgia, Maine, and Tennessee, where she helped rewrite election legislation. Honey was the lead investigator on President Trump’s criminal defense team supporting his Jan. ...

Vote-By-Mail Endangers Public Confidence in Elections

By John and Andy Schlafly | Commentary, The Federalist Sandwiched between Trump’s high-powered meetings with foreign leaders, Trump took the time to prioritize ending fraud-prone mail-in voting. Slightly more than half of our country – 28 states – permit mail-in voting without any documented reason or excuse. Earlier this month, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Judge James Ho began his decision in favor of a voter ID law in Texas by declaring, “Mail-in ballots are not secure.” The vast majority of the world agrees and has banned the permissive mail-in voting that is allowed here. Our postal service was never intended to conduct elections. That is not its mission. The delivery standards of our postal service have been declining, such that postmarks are no longer consiste...
