Mesa County to Secretary Griswold: ‘This is our community and our investigation’

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice The Mesa County elections office is investigating a potential case of election fraud, Mesa County Clerk Bobbie Gross announced Thursday, just moments after a press release vividly detailing the case was sent to the media from Secretary of State Jena Griswold's office. "While we understand the secretary of state’s desire to make public statements, this is our community and our investigation," Gross said. Thirteen minutes earlier, Griswold had released specific information pertaining to the investigation and a statement to the media. "It is critical that we follow proper procedures to ensure a thorough and effective investigation without tipping off those involved," Gross said. "The people of Mesa County deserve transparency and accountabili...

Group opposed to ranked-choice voting warns it will make elections less secure

By Brady Knox | Colorado Politics, via Washington Examiner An anti-ranked choice voting group warned that ballot initiatives in favor of the practice would make elections less secure. Eight states and the District of Columbia will have ballot initiatives related to ranked choice voting. RCV is a method of voting where voters can vote for multiple candidates in order of preference. While activists praise the method as being more fair and allowing voters' voices to be better heard, opponents making up the Stop RCV Coalition, such as Honest Elections Project Executive Director Jason Snead, argue that the process serves only to confuse voters. "Ranked choice voting is a convoluted scheme that confuses voters," he said. "Across the country, millions of citizens...

Overbeck: Don’t align with teachers’ unions against Amendment 80 for school choice

By Joy Overbeck | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice From the Strange Bedfellows Department: the Christian Homeschool Educators of Colorado (CHEC) have joined with the sworn enemies of school choice, including teachers unions, the National Education Association (NEA) the Colorado Educators Association (CEA), and the Colorado Democratic Party to work against School Choice (Amendment 80) on the ballot.  For nearly 35 years, CHEC has championed parents’ school choice, helping families find Christian homeschool resources and comply with the state of Colorado’s homeschool laws. For far longer, the NEA, the CEA, and other groups working tirelessly against Amendment 80, like the American Civil Liberties Union, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and even the Parent-Teach...

Barry & O’Reilly: Vote ‘NO’ on Prop. 131 and say you don’t want ranked-choice voting

By James Barry and Chuck O'Reilly | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice With the passage of Proposition 131, the ranked-choice voting measure you may have heard about, petitions are the only way candidates will able to qualify for the ballot. Only candidates with big money supporting them will be able to pay canvassers enough money to stand in front of stores to get a sufficient number of voters to sign each candidate’s petition.  That’s right! Only candidates with enough money supporting them will be able to pay canvassers. All candidates will need large amount of money to pay their way onto the ballot.  As a result, those candidates are beholding to those donors. Why? Gone are the days when we gathered with our neighbors to discuss candidates at our caucuses and...

Grand County passes resolution opposing Prop. 127, citing ecological, economic harms

By Jen Schumann | Contributor, Rocky Mountain Voice In the heart of Colorado's rugged landscapes, a battle brews over the fate of its wildlife, vital to the fabric of its rural economy. Rural communities like Grand County are pushing back against Proposition 127, which would prohibit the hunting of mountain lions, bobcats and lynx.  Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Grand County commissioners recently passed a formal resolution condemning the measure, warning of the far-reaching consequences for both wildlife management and the rural economy. Grand County Commission Chair Merrit Linke has been vocal in his opposition. “Agriculture contributes $14 million to our local economy and that’s a very different $14 million compared to what we get from tourism,” Linke explains. “I...

Benson: Kamala Harris sidesteps free speech concerns while advocating for top-down control

By Guy Benson | Commentary, Townhall.com In an interview with NBC News on Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris lamented America's divisive politics, arguing that her desire to 'turn the page' is really about "closing the page" -- whatever that means -- on "an era that suggests Americans are divided."  It's true that Americans are divided.  Figures in both major political parties and across the political spectrum bear some responsibility for that reality, including both her and her opponent.  Part of the polarization and acrimony is stoked and fueled for cynical purposes.  But a lot of it is simply a reflection of profound differences on policies and values.  Voters have divergent views on what they want the country to look like, what sort of leaders t...

Existing home sales fall to 14-year low as home affordability crisis squeezes American families

By John Carney | Breitbart Home sales fell to the lowest level in 14 years, as high home prices, inflation-depleted savings, still-elevated mortgage rates, and election uncertainty kept buyers on the sidelines Sales of existing homes—which make up most real estate transactions in the U.S.—fell by one percent to an annual rate of 3.84 million in September, the National Association of Realtors said Wednesday. Economists had forecast a stronger 3.9 million sales figure for the month. Sales fell by about 2.5 percent in the prior month. READ THE FULL STORY AT BREITBART

Ex-girlfriend comes forward to accuse Doug Emhoff of domestic violence

By John Nolte | Breitbart An ex-girlfriend of America’s Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, has come forward to accuse the man who hopes to be history’s first First Gentleman of physically assaulting her in 2012. Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, the woman, who is remaining anonymous for obvious reasons (we’ve all seen what the corporate media and Democrats do to women whose accusations — no matter how credible — threaten the left’s hold on power), says she decided to come forward for two reasons. The first is that Emhoff, though a spokesman, denied he hit her. The second, per the Daily Mail, is that “his alleged hypocrisy by claiming to be a feminist in media interviews, finally became too much for her.” “What’s frightening for a woman that’s been on the ...

New report reveals massive number of illegal immigrants benefiting from Biden-Harris admin’s ‘quiet amnesty’

By Adam Shaw | Fox News Nearly 1 million illegal immigrants are staying in the U.S. "indefinitely" after their cases were dismissed or closed, or the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) failed to file the necessary documentation, according to a new House Judiciary Committee report being released on Thursday. "Through administrative maneuvering at both the Justice Department and DHS, the Biden-Harris Administration has already ensured that nearly 1 million illegal aliens can remain in the United States without the possibility of deportation—and that trend shows no sign of stopping," the report by the House majority on the committee, first obtained by Fox News Digital, says. When illegal immigrants are encountered, they can be put into removal proceedings by which they w...
