In competitive Colorado House and Senate primary races, fundraising is strong

By Marianne Goodland  | Colorado Politics The latest campaign finance reports filed with the Secretary of State show hot fundraising for several primary races for the state House and Senate. As of May 29, the hottest race is the Democratic Senate District 19 primary contest, where candidates are looking to succeed Sen. Rachel Zenzinger, D-Arvada. The contest is between Rep. Lindsay Daugherty and Westminster City Councilman Obi Ezeadi, with the fundraising now neck-and-neck. Daugherty has raised $137,548 as of May 29; Ezeadi has brought in $136,540. It shows up in the copays, the bills and now Colorado hospitals are facing a crisis.  "Reimbursement is down everywhere partly because we have an increase in the number of uninsured patients across the country," said Denver Health's CEO Donna Lynne. Lynne went before a Denver City Council committee Wednesday to ask them to advance a ballot question to Denver voters requesting a sales tax hike. The increase would be devoted to help pay cost shortages and would cost shoppers an extra 3.4 cents on a $10 purchase. By Nikki Wentling | The Air Force Times The Pentagon failed to properly train and guide troops about off-limits political activities ahead of the 2024 presidential election season, a federal watchdog said. The lack of communication about Pentagon policies means service members may be prone to violating rules they don’t know exist and portraying the Defense Department as politically partisan, the DOD’s Office of Inspector General argued in a report published May 28. U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn announced earlier this year his decision to retire at the conclusion of his term, setting up an open-seat election for the central and southern Colorado district. Ballots to begin hitting mailstream for June 25 primary election

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Ballots will begin hitting the mailstream today, June 3, in the state's primary election, Secretary of State Jena Griswold has announced. Election Day is Tuesday, June 25. “Ballots are arriving to your mailbox soon,” said Griswold, in a press release. “There is still time to register to vote if you have not already, and I encourage every eligible Coloradan to do so.” Active voters must be mailed a ballot by Friday, June 7. Front Range Passenger Rail District votes to push back ballot initiative to 2026
