While illegal immigration and inflation top Americans’ list of concerns, both parties are increasingly talking about the Trump-era tax cuts, which President Joe Biden has said he will allow to expire next year. By Hannah Metzger | Westword Days after a new state law began allowing Colorado students to choose their names at school, an effort to require parental notification for such behavior started petitioning for the November ballot. Initiative 142 would require that public school staff inform parents if they obtain any information that a student is experiencing "gender incongruence," defined as a difference between the student's biological sex and gender identity. If a child uses a different name or pronouns at school — or even if an employee overhears students talking about their gender identity — their parents would have to be notified. The Republican Party of Florida on Wednesday night picked the 18-year-old youngest son of former President Donald Trump as one of the state’s at-large delegates to the Republican National Convention, per a copy of the results viewed by POLITICO. By BizWest Staff Voters in Loveland will get to decide in November whether it should take five or six votes on the nine-member City Council to fire the city manager or city attorney. According to the Loveland Reporter-Herald, the council voted 5-4 on Tuesday to direct the city attorney’s office to draft the ballot language. Council member Troy Krenning, who introduced the motion, said such a change from a five-vote to a six-vote threshold could have prevented the large severance payments the city had to make to former City Manager Steve Adams and former City Attorney Moses Garcia, since just five council members, not a “super-majority” of six, wanted to see them fired. In a survey from the American Press Institute and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, a whopping 83 percent of respondents said they were concerned the media would “report inaccurate information or disinformation” in their 2024 election coverage.
