Trump Team Celebrates End of Schumer Shutdown With Viral Tweet

By Matt Vespa | Townhall The longest government shutdown is over, and Trump won. He won. And credit to the Republicans. If compromising on protections for federal workers was the price to stop $1.5 trillion from going to illegal alien health care benefits and funding NPR, that’s not the worst outcome. Still, Democrats got nothing. They basically signed onto the exact same deal Republicans pitched in October.  The president signed the bill, which passed the House 222-209 after sailing through the Senate once eight Democrats opted to end this circus and joined Republicans in reopening the government. At the signing, Trump reminded the nation of the damage Democrats did to the country with this shambolic ploy. https://twitter.com/EricLDaugh/status/1988809228732035381?s=20 h...

GOP’s Thune Slams Schumer for ‘Political Games’ Amid SNAP Funding Crisis

By Ramsey Touchberry | Washington Examiner An animated Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) unleashed on Democrats on Wednesday over food stamp funding that’s set to run dry on Nov. 1 due to the government shutdown. The normally mild-mannered Midwesterner shouted a deluge of criticism on the floor against Democrats for seeking to pass a stand-alone measure for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other federal food aid after having opposed a “clean” GOP stopgap bill 13 times in recent weeks to reopen the government. “SNAP recipients shouldn’t go without food. People should be getting paid in this country. And we tried to do that 13 times! You voted ‘no’ 13 times!” Thune charged on the shutdown’s 29th day. “This isn’t a political gam...

Trump fires one-third of Voice of America staff

By Annabella Rosciglione | Washington Examiner The Trump administration fired around 600 employees at Voice of America, approximately one-third of its staff. The layoffs targeted contracted journalists and some administrative employees. Voice of America is a news network funded by the federal government that provides reporting to countries that have limited press freedom.  Voice of America indicated that the Trump administration continued its push to dismantle the broadcaster, despite a court order requiring the government to keep it. Voice of America Director Michael Abramowitz, a plaintiff suing the government over its cuts, said in an email to his staff that he was “heartbroken” over the firings. The now-fired journalists will have to leave the ...

Gazette editorial board: CO drivers footing the bill for transit dreams amounts to highway robbery

The Gazette editorial board | Denver Gazette A lot of motorists aren’t crazy about driving our crumbling and congested traffic corridors. But only a handful actually hates motor vehicles. Unfortunately, that unrepresentative handful is overrepresented in our state legislature and the Governor’s Office. In some city halls, too. And they’d like nothing more than for the rest of us to quit driving and ride a bus or light rail, instead. Or ride a bike. Which explains those empty bike lanes you see squeezing cars and trucks aside on busy transportation thoroughfares and neighborhood streets. It also helps to explain the abysmal condition of Colorado’s highways, bridges and other basic transportation infrastructure. It’s getting worse by the day. Although the powers that be wouldn...

Trump cuts more than $400 million in grants to Columbia over antisemitism concerns, potentially more to come

By Alec Schemmel  | Fox News The Trump administration announced on Friday that it will rescind more than $400 million in federal grants to Columbia University, citing concerns over rising antisemitism on campus and the school's failure to address it. Earlier this week, the Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS), Education (DoED) and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced the initiation of a "comprehensive review" of more than $5 billion in federal grant money that goes to Columbia, "in light of ongoing investigations for potential violations of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act" related to antisemitism on campus.  It has only been four days since the Trump administration's announcement of this review, but the agencies have already begun slas...
