By James Lynch | National Review The Trump administration is freezing over $2 billion in federal funds to Harvard University, hours after the Ivy League school indicated it rejected the federal government's demands for various policy reforms intended to restore ideological balance on campus. The multi-agency Joint Task Force to Combat Antisemitism announced on Monday evening it would freeze Harvard's $2.2 billion in multiyear grants and a $60 million contract. People may imagine that the bulk of these subsidies assist low-income students in covering the high and rising costs of attending these universities, but that is not what the federal government primarily funds. The largest type of subsidy that wealthy universities receive is in the form of payments for overhead costs on federal research grants. During fiscal year (FY) 2022, Ivy League universities received $1.8 billion for overhead on government-funded research grants.
