In 3rd District, Club 20 debate unveiled sharp contrast between candidates Hurd, Frisch

By Lindy J. Browning | Contributor, Rocky Mountain Voice While both candidates have successfully identified issues that are top of mind for voters in the U.S. House District 3 race -- primarily the economy, border, health care, public lands, agriculture and water issues -- a Club 20 debate last week on the Western Slope showcased a sharp contrast in both candidates' specific policy solutions and demeanor. In his opening statements, Adam Frisch, the Democratic nominee, told the audience: “I’m here tonight because rural Colorado has been left behind and ignored. Everyone feels forgotten, misunderstood and taken advantage of by Denver and D.C.” “We are tired of the 'Angertainment' that seeps into our lives. It’s destructive to our families and communities. I just don’t have any room ...

In new ad, Republican Jeff Hurd vows to prioritize expanding access to health care in rural Colorado

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics Republican congressional candidate Jeff Hurd hits the road to talk health care in a TV ad his campaign released Wednesday in Colorado's sprawling 3rd Congressional District. "I remember when mom got really sick with cancer, we had to travel out of state for help," says Hurd as he navigates a wide-open highway from behind the wheel of a pickup truck in the 30-second spot. "Today, some Coloradans have to travel for hours for even the most basic care. We can do better." Adds Hurd: "I'll make expanding health care access for rural Colorado a top priority. Protect Social Security and Medicare. I'll always remember who I'm fighting for." READ THE FULL STORY AT COLORADO POLITICS

From communism to Colorado: Barbora Hurd’s call for freedom with Mesa County GOP Women

By Jen Schumann | Contributor, Rocky Mountain Voice At the Mesa County Republican Women's monthly luncheon, Barbora Hurd, originally from Czechoslovakia, shared what a childhood under Communism was like. It took her seven years to become a U.S. citizen, after marrying 3rd District U.S. House Republican nominee Jeff Hurd. For Barbora, living in a country where hard work leads to achieving dreams is worth fighting for. Living Under Communism Barbora recalled: “I was born and grew up behind the Iron Curtain. This meant that we, as citizens, had no freedom of speech or expression. No freedom of religion or worship. We had no free press. We were not free to move. And we had no freedom to assemble.” Hurd quoted Czech ex-president Vaclav Havel on life under communism: “Because the ...

Colorado’s 3rd District moved to ‘likely Republican’ by Cook Political

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice Colorado's 3rd District on the Western Slope is one of eight nationally to have received a ratings change from Cook Political. The seat is presently held by U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, but is an open seat in the general election as Boebert vies for election in the 4th District. Democrat Adam Frisch and Republican Jeff Hurd are their parties' nominations for the 3rd District seat. Cook Political moved the seat from lean Republican to likely Republican, improving the chance Republicans will hold the seat in November. “Nothing is going right for Adam Frisch," said National Republican Congressional Committee spokeswoman Delanie Bomar. "While Frisch is floundering, momentum is on our side as Republicans are all hands on deck to send Jeff Hurd to ...

House GOP campaign arm names Colorado’s Jeff Hurd, Gabe Evans to ‘Young Guns’ program

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics The National Republican Congressional Committee announced Monday that the Republican nominees in Colorado's most competitive congressional races were named to the House GOP campaign arm's Young Guns program for top challengers in targeted seats. First-time candidate Jeff Hurd and state Rep. Gabe Evans, R-Fort Lupton, are among 26 Republican House candidates inducted into the top tier of the campaign support program, which helps candidates who have met fundraising and organizational goals, the NRCC said. Hurd, a Grand Junction attorney, is facing Democrat Adam Frisch in the 3rd Congressional District, which covers most of the Western Slope and Southern Colorado, and Evans is running against first-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo in the N...

Independence Day: Some cite Reagan, Trump, but Gardner goes way back to Adams in Twitter greetings

By BRIAN PORTER | Rocky Mountain Voice While Coloradans were enjoying parades, rodeos and cookouts in celebration Thursday of Independence Day, elected Republican officials past, present and possibly future turned to Twitter. For those not binge-watching Yellowstone re-runs, Twitter was filled with their personal thoughts and quotations, as could be expected, by Presidents Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump, and unexpectedly by novelist William Faulkner. The occasion drew former U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner to get more creative, citing the country's co-drafter of the Declaration of Independence, the first vice president, first occupant of the White House and the country's only Federalist president: John Adams. Gardner encouraged Coloradans and Americans to, as Adams had said in 1776, "Ce...

Why is Democrat Adam Frisch running TV ads in 3rd District primary? To boost his chances in November

By Jesse Paul | The Colorado Sun Democrat Adam Frisch is spending at least $100,000 to air a TV ad in the Republican primary in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District in an apparent attempt to shape the race and give himself a better chance to win in November. The ad attacks Grand Junction attorney Jeff Hurd for “ducking Republican debates” and for refusing to say who he voted for in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, as well as for being the beneficiary of corporate super PAC money. It’s a clear call to GOP primary voters in the Republican-leaning 3rd District to back a different candidate in the six-way race — someone Frisch believes will be easier to beat in November. Someone like former state Rep. Ron Hanks, an election denier who attended Donald Trump’s rally on Jan. 6, 2021,...

Poll: Jeff Hurd holds wide lead in Colorado’s 3rd District Republican primary

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics Grand Junction Republican Jeff Hurd holds a comfortable lead in the six-way GOP primary in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District as ballots go in the mail to voters, new polling shows. Hurd, an attorney and first-time candidate, was the choice of 27% of the likely Republican primary voters polled, with none of his rivals breaking out of single digits, according to results of a co/efficient survey conducted this week and made available exclusively to Colorado Politics. Just over half of those surveyed said they were undecided. Covering most of the Western Slope and parts of Southern Colorado, the Republican-leaning district has been represented for two terms by U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, who moved across the state to another district ea...

Hurd qualifies for primary ballot in Colorado’s 3rd District U.S. House race

Brian Porter | The Rocky Mountain Voice Jeff Hurd, a Grand Junction attorney, has qualified for a place on the ballot in Colorado's 3rd District in Congress, the Secretary of State's office announced Wednesday. Hurd has been endorsed by former Secretary of State Scott Gessler and former State Treasurer Walker Stapleton, who also was the Republican nominee for governor in 2018. On his campaign website, Hurd is in the race, it says, to "provide a sincere and hardworking representative focused more on doing something than being someone." Border security, improving the economy through job creation and empowering families are among the issues on his website. Hurd submitted 4,388 signatures on his petition, with more rejected signatures than accepted. The 2,162 signatures accepted me...
