Prairie Ridge Natural Area in Northern Colorado to grow by 140 acres for $1.1M

By Seth Boster | Out There Colorado An area for conservation and recreation is growing in northern Colorado, helping to realize a long-term goal of local land managers. The 140-acre addition to Prairie Ridge Natural Area "represents the final piece in a 25-year effort creating a 3,500-acre separator between Loveland and Fort Collins," read a recent announcement from Great Outdoors Colorado. That was in announcing a $1.1 million grant toward a multi-agency acquisition totaling about $6.7 million. A majority of the funding is from the city of Loveland, which manages Prairie Ridge Natural Area and has led the arrangement with the city of Fort Collins and Larimer County. Dead wolf in Colorado likely killed by mountain lion, officials say

By Marianne Goodland | Colorado Politics A dead gray wolf found in Larimer County last month was most likely killed by a mountain lion, according to information from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. "The initial necropsy report conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on the deceased gray wolf found in Larimer County on April 18, 2024 finds that the cause of death is trauma, consistent with predation. Although not definitive, the puncture wounds in the skull are consistent with those typically inflicted by a mountain lion," the agency said. Meanwhile, another yearling at the ranch of Conway Farrell in Grand County has been killed by a wolf, according to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife wolf depredation report. Man found dead in submerged vehicle in Horsetooth Reservoir

By Miles Blumhardt | The Coloradoan A man has been found dead in a vehicle submerged in Horsetooth Reservoir, according to Colorado State Patrol. The crash was reported at 9 a.m. Friday as a single vehicle partially submerged in the reservoir near Larimer County Road 48C and Larimer County Road North 23 (Centennial Road), on the northeast corner of the reservoir west of Fort Collins, the state patrol told the Coloradoan on Monday. Poudre Fire Authority, Larimer County Natural Resources Department rangers and the Larimer County Dive Team searched the vehicle, which state patrol described as a Nissan SUV.
