Bill Opening Door To Lawsuits Against Immigration Officials Clears Colorado Senate

By Jacob Factor | KDVR DENVER (KDVR) — A Colorado bill that would open the door for lawsuits against immigration officials who injure people in the state passed the Colorado Senate Tuesday morning, moving one step closer to becoming law. Senate Bill 26-005, “Rights Violation in Immigration Enforcement Remedy,” states that it is meant to protect Coloradans constitutional rights during civil immigration enforcement. The bill comes amid heavily scrutinized federal immigration operations throughout the U.S., including a recently ended crackdown in Minnesota in which immigration officials killed two American citizens and injured more.  By Jen Schumann | Rocky Mountain Voice A landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding Tennessee’s restrictions on gender-related medical interventions for minors has reignited scrutiny over Colorado’s HB25-1312, with several Republican lawmakers calling the ruling a clear rebuke to the law’s premise—and a warning to parents. “I was so happy with the Supreme Court’s ruling. I hope it leads to the State of Colorado being sued for the passing and the Governor’s signing of HB25-1312,” said Sen. Janice Rich (Mesa County). That ruling, issued June 18 in U.S. v. Sen. Lisa Frizell, announcing she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, pledges to fight for her health and district

Lisa Frizell has joined the ranks of the more than 5,000 Coloradans who annually receive a breast cancer diagnosis, she told members of the Colorado Senate on Wednesday. "I'm a really, really private person, and I don't share this information lightly," Frizell said. Her cancer was caught through a routine screening, she said. "I have a heart of gratitude that my cancer has been caught early," Frizell said, encouraging those in the chamber and others throughout Colorado to "get a mammogram every year. Do it even though it is inconvenient and intrusive. Do it because it can save your life."
