Aurora Voters Face Packed Ballot with Proposal for New Downtown Authority

By Sherrie Peif | Complete Colorado AURORA–Voters in the the City of Aurora will decide on multiple charter amendments and city council seats this November, along with a referred measure asking residents to create a new tax-financed Downtown Development Authority (DDA). Aurora, which borders Denver to the east, is Colorado’s third most populous city at a little over 414,000 residents, made up of portions of Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas counties.    The DDA is a government entity whose purpose is to revitalize the downtown-area including businesses, infrastructure, and events. Mayors of Denver and Aurora clash over ‘offloading of illegals’ in Aurora

By Shaun Boyd | CBS Colorado In an op-ed published in the Colorado Springs Gazette, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman accused Denver Mayor Mike Johnston of not being truthful about how migrants, including Venezuelan gang members, ended up in Aurora. Coffman said he filed an open records request that shows Johnston used the cover of non-profits to quietly dump migrants in other cities. Johnston denied the allegations, stating,  "The City of Denver never places anyone anywhere."  Johnston said he was blindsided by the op-ed that included a headline claiming, "Denver's Mayor offloads immigrants on Aurora." Colorado law could complicate Trump’s mass deportation plan, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman says

By Shaun Boyd | CBS Colorado Less than two months after President-elect Donald Trump announced "Operation Aurora" -- a.k.a. operation mass deportation -- Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman says he shouldn't expect much help in Colorado. "At this point, there's really nothing we can do -- there's nothing to prepare for -- because we really have no authority," Coffman said. It's against state law for local law enforcement in Colorado to cooperate with federal immigration agents. Harris and Trump were asked whether they thought the economy was in a better position than four years ago. Each candidate touted their policy goals in their response, while Trump also used his time to repeat the anti-immigration rhetoric that has often been the centerpiece of his political messaging.
