The Gazette editorial board | Denver Gazette The quaint Tri-Lakes town of Palmer Lake is a gem Coloradans cherish- its serene lake, charming shops, and tight-knit community make it a Front Range treasure. Sadly, a storm brews over a proposed Buc-ee's travel center at 1-25 and County Line Road, sparking a recall effort against Trustees Shana Ball, Kevin Dreher, and Dennis Stern. This push, fueled by an outside activist club - the leader of which compared trustees to the "Taliban" - risks needlessly fracturing an otherwise peaceful village.  Palmer Lake's leaders deserve a chance to navigate this opportunity, not a divisive ouster.  With Buc-ee's promising economic uplift, the town should leverage it wisely. By Mackenzie Bodell  | The Gazette One of the three planned studies evaluating the impact of the proposed Buc-ee's west of Interstate 25 off County Line Road indicates existing 2025 traffic operations are acceptable with only minor delays and queues anticipated.  The gas station chain — known for its iconic beaver logo — has its first Colorado location in Johnstown, but the possibility of another opening near Palmer Lake has caused a resident uproar. Lawsuit filed against town of Palmer Lake, officials over Buc-ee’s plan

By BRETT FORREST | The Gazette, via KOAA Several nonprofit organizations are suing the town of Palmer Lake, its mayor and other city officials over a controversial plan to annex land to open a Buc-ee's convenience store. The lawsuit, filed Friday, alleges a multitude of complaints including improper land annexation agreements, restriction of free speech and violation of open meeting laws for matters surrounding the development of the popular Texas-based chain, which opened its first Colorado location near Johnstown in 2024. Nonprofit Integrity Matters filed the suit along with Westside Watch, TriLakes Preservation, Inc, United Congregational Church, and other individuals and business owners in the Palmer Lake area.
