Pikes Peak stakeholders ask state to help manage recreation around America’s Mountain

By Jason Blevins | The Colorado Sun As federal land managers navigate shrinking budgets, Colorado Parks and Wildlife could assume a larger role in managing recreation on public lands around Pikes Peak.  A consortium — the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, El Paso and Teller counties, the cities of Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs Utilities — is asking CPW to help manage increasing recreation around America’s Mountain, starting with management of the Ring the Peak Trail.  “This can allow the Forest Service to focus on areas where they can do the most good with their wildfire crisis strategy. No deaths reported in heat-related ‘mass casualty’ incident at Pikes Peak Regional Airshow

By Aaron Vitatoe | CBS 11 News The Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to a heat-related mass casualty incident at the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow on Saturday. Officials with the Airshow and CSFD told 11 News no deaths have been reported. “Mass casualty incidents include injuries in the definition,” they clarify. Budget crunch could lead to $3 per person uptick in cost to drive up Pikes Peak

By Seth Boster | Pikes Peak Courier The price to drive up Pikes Peak could rise next summer under a proposal that comes at a time of other changes, increased costs and future concerns for the enterprise managing the famed highway. Pikes Peak-America’s Mountain — the enterprise established out of the city of Colorado Springs’ operations dating to 1948 — has proposed an extra $3 for people passing the Pikes Peak Highway gate. That would increase adult and children tickets to $18 and $8, respectively. Under the proposal, the charge for a carload of people would be $65, up $15.
