Turn down the noise: Why Steve Pearce’s BLM confirmation isn’t the crisis critics claim

By Greg Walcher | Commentary, GregWalcher.com This week the Senate finally confirmed the new Director of the Bureau of Land Management, former New Mexico Congressman Steve Pearce. The firestorm surrounding his nomination a few weeks earlier has not yet cooled and probably won’t. The volume is louder than the situation justifies, though, and the vast western sky above BLM land is not falling. I met Steve Pearce several times when he was a congressman and always found him to be well informed, reasonable, and friendly – nothing like the demon portrayed by political opponents. He has deep roots in southeast New Mexico, where he grew up surrounded by BLM land, so he knows the agency well. Wolverines Set for Reintroduction in to Aspen Mountains Despite Public Concerns

By River Stingray | The Aspen Times The Aspen area has been included in one of three general release zones for the reintroduction of wolverines into the state, according to preliminary information from Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s developing plan. The “central zone” will cover Aspen to Gunnison. The other two general release zones that have been identified are the “northern zone,” including the areas near Rocky Mountain National Park, and the “southern zone,” including the San Juans between Montrose and Durango. “Colorado is especially well suited to help address (wolverine) conservation concerns,” said Colorado State University graduate student Kaitlyn Reed at one of the many virtual educational events she’s been running as a project partner with CSU’s Center for Human Carnivore...

Antiquities Act rebalanced: DOJ says President Trump has authority to cancel national monument designations

(AP) — Lawyers for President Donald Trump's administration say he has the authority to abolish national monuments meant to protect historical and archaeological sites across broad landscapes, including two in California created by his predecessor at the request of Native American tribes. Colorado has nine national monuments, which include Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, Chimney Rock National Monument, Colorado National Monument, Browns Canyon National Monument, Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument, Dinosaur National Monument, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, Hovenweep National Monument, and Yucca House National Monument.
