Pueblo sees uptick in fentanyl use

By Michelle Wells | KKTV PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - The Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment (PDPHE) monitors the use of drugs, like fentanyl, by testing wastewater. According to their wastewater dashboard, last month fentanyl use in Pueblo increased for the first time this year. In a statement from PDPHE they say, “In March, wastewater data showed 10.82mg per 1,000 people, per day. Comparatively, that number was around 5mg per 1,000 people, per day in January and February. Overall, this number is much lower compared to March 2024, when wastewater data showed 20.95mg per 1,000 people, per day.” This means fentanyl use last month was about half of what it was in March 2024. Ganahl: Is the Pueblo mayor on a Republican revenge tour?

By Heidi Ganahl | Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice Pueblo, Colorado, has become the backdrop for a politically charged controversy involving Republican Mayor Heather Graham and Pueblo conservatives.  Graham’s election to mayor over incumbent Democrat Nick Gradisar was a shock in 2023.  After decades of Democratic rule, conservatives celebrated a new direction in their beloved city.  The celebration didn’t last long.  Mayor Graham’s relationship with the Republican Party has soured significantly since her primary election. Feeling betrayed by Republican leaders who supported other candidates in her primary election, Graham has taken several steps that suggest a personal vendetta against the party, and conservatives in her city. Her most striking move came yester...

Aftermath of Pueblo’s homeless encampment and trash clear out, a week later

By Eleanor Sheahan | KOAA News The City of Pueblo and the mayor have received both support and pushback about the way they are trying to clean up the steel city. Last week, the city cleared out trash and homeless camps along Fountain Creek. This clean up has brought forward many concerns over how the city is dealing with homelessness and whether or not the city is providing enough resources. Last week the area from the 8th Street to the 4th Street bridge was cleared out by the city. But people in Pueblo are at odds, some voicing support of this while others say there needs to be more resources for unhoused individuals. It began on Tuesday, September 3rd. That is when city crews began removing trash and homeless camps along Fountain Creek. READ THE FULL STORY AT KOAA NEWS
