Colorado needs an all‑of‑the‑above energy strategy

By Rep. Ryan Gonzalez | Guest Commentary, Rocky Mountain Voice As we all know, energy is vital in policy making. If we have no secure energy sector, uncertainty will ensue. While there are different views on energy policy, we must not rule out any single source of energy (like fossil fuels) for a clean environment that also secures our demand to provide for our consumers.  Energy affects virtually everything from the cost of raw materials to the finished goods or services you see in the market. More rigorous energy policy that isn’t cost effective, only raises prices and may create scarcity of resources available. In the Colorado legislature, as a first term state Representative, I have seen these concerns unfold in real time as they push a very ambitious 2040 zero emissions ...

Hunter: ‘Real people doing real things’—NoCo Legislative Wrap-Up rallies the grassroots

Drake Hunter | Commentary, RMV NE CO Newsroom, Rocky Mountain Voice Last night’s Northeast Colorado Legislative Wrap-Up at Rez Church in Loveland wasn’t just a review of bills and budgets—it was, for many of us, a clear-eyed call to civic action. Several hundred attendees gathered to hear from elected officials representing Colorado’s northeastern counties, including a few rising voices in the state’s Republican ranks. Among them were Reps. Ryan Gonzalez and Carlos Barron, two principled young leaders quickly gaining traction with voters across Colorado. The event was thoughtfully organized by NoCo Wrap-Up, marking its inaugural year. Well-coordinated and engaging, it was also refreshingly focused on substance over spectacle. It set a high bar and laid the foundation for what many...

Rep. Gonzalez: States can’t solve immigration chaos without congressional action

Rep. Ryan Gonzalez | Commentary, Complete Colorado There’s no denying we have a broken immigration system. For decades, meaningful reform to solve this very complex issue has failed to take root. The people have wanted a fair and more streamlined immigration process that protects national security, but also is just and humane. Given the very heated climate we find ourselves in today, with riots and anarchy playing out in the streets, I have to speak up. I will not let the media speak for me. I won’t let anyone speak for me. As a Colorado state legislator and a son of immigrants, I know this issue on a personal level. My parents are immigrants. My mom is a resident and my dad is a citizen. They told me we all need a hand up sometimes but never handouts. I know many undocumented ...

Weld County Republican legislators seek to repeal Colorado’s ‘cage-free’ eggs law

By Marissa Ventrelli | Colorado Politics A pair of Republican lawmakers are seeking to repeal Colorado's "cage-free" eggs law, which went into full effect at the start of the year, citing the commodity's price has increased more than any other food tracked.   Under 2020's House Bill 1343, all eggs sold in Colorado are required to come from cage-free chickens starting on Jan. 1, 2025.  This year's House Bill 1074, sponsored by Rep. Ryan Gonzalez, R-Greeley, and Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer, R-Brighton, would repeal that law. The bill, which was introduced on Jan. 8, has been assigned to the Agriculture, Water & Natural Resources Committee. READ THE FULL STORY AT COLORADO POLITICS
