Transportation Department learns it’s funding $54 million in woke grants — and ends them

By Mary Margaret Olohan | Daily Wire WASHINGTON—The Department of Transportation is terminating $54 million worth of recently-discovered “woke university grants,” The Daily Wire has learned, arguing that the grants advanced radical agendas that ran counter to the department’s mission. Seven schools received grants which Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy told The Daily Wire were advancing a “radical DEI and green agenda” that is wasteful and counter to the Trump administration’s priorities. The University of California, Davis’s National Center for Sustainable Transportation was receiving $12 million for “accelerating equitable decarbonization” research, according to the department, while City College of New York’s Center for Social and Economic Mobility for People and Communities...

Duffy: Colorado could use a DOGE of its own

By Sean Duffy | Commentary, The Gazette What did you accomplish this week? This basic question from Elon Musk to the federal workforce — a question routinely asked and answered in the private sector — set off waves of sputtering outrage as the effort to reduce a bloated, unaccountable government rolls on. Disruption always strikes hair-raising fear in the complacent. Duffy: Gas or electric? Ballot issue keeps it your choice

By Sean Duffy | Commentary, Denver Gazette Why is a ban on gas stoves a front-burner issue for Colorado progressives? At the Capitol, and in blue bastions across the state, combating climate change is an overriding policy imperative, driving increased statutory and regulatory activity targeting numerous industries, including manufacturing, home building and, above all, energy. Ask business lobbyists from either party and they’ll uniformly express the concern that these measures are expensive, threaten family-sustaining jobs and hamper economic growth. The real-world threats from these efforts far outweigh any alleged incremental reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. For them, making Colorado a less-welcoming place to do business, pursue a career or simply live comfortably matter...

Duffy: Gun bill busts good guys; gives bad guys a pass

By Sean Duffy | Commentary, The Gazette When it comes to gun legislation, liberals keep shooting themselves in the foot. Each year, leftists in the Colorado Legislature get out a bucket of deep blue paint and, broad brushes in hand, paint themselves into untenable corners on a wide range of issues. As they search for a way out, they often default to turning dumb legislation into meaningless, unreadable — and unread — studies. Or they tack on amendments that end up creating needless work and cost for hard-working Coloradans, just so they get a talking point for their constituent newsletters. Duffy: Denver’s mayor frets over the wrong Exodus

By Sean Duffy | Commentary, The Gazette Mayor Mike Johnston is confused. Denver’s mayor wants to stand athwart the city’s boundaries to stop people from leaving. His problem is he’s focused on the wrong people. Apparently seeking to bolster his progressive bona-fides, Mayor Mike recently staged a public hissy fit about the incoming Trump administration’s plan to deport illegal immigrants. In a bizarre rant he had to walk back, he said he would deploy the already understaffed Denver Police Department to stop federal immigration agents. If his goal was to get national attention as a pro-illegal immigrant warrior, it worked.
