Gabel: Why I have no beef with President Trump’s beef tariffs

By Rachel Gabel | Commentary, Colorado Politics President Donald Trump’s tariffs should be on the radar of every agriculture producer in the U.S. Our country is not only the top producer of beef at 12.1 million metric tons annually, but also the top importer of beef, consuming 12.7 metric tons annually. There are hundreds of other ag commodities that rely on trade, of course, but beef is on my radar. One of the countries at the top of the beef tariff list is Australia, which is one of the countries that imports no American beef, a result of a 2003 restriction following a North American outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease. Our country, however, imports $4.8 billion in Australian beef annually, making the U.S. Australia’s largest beef market. Japan, Mexi...

Trump threatens additional 50% tariff on China

By Christian Datoc | Washington Examiner President Donald Trump said Monday that he would impose an additional 50% tariff on all Chinese goods if Beijing doesn’t withdraw retaliatory taxes on United States imports. Beijing responded to the president’s “Liberation Day” announcement last Wednesday with a 34% tariff on U.S. goods slated to take effect this week, which prompted Trump to raise the stakes again Monday morning. EU offers Trump ‘zero-for-zero tariffs’ on industrial goods with United States

By Kurt Zindulka | Breitbart EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday that the bloc has offered a “zero-for-zero tariff” trade arrangement on industrial goods with the United States in a bid to avoid a full-on trade war. While the EU chief continued to condemn the reciprocal tariff measures enacted by U.S. President Donald Trump to rectify the long-standing transatlantic trade imbalance, as pressure from the markets began to take shape, Von der Leyen and other top eurocrats expressed willingness to negotiate with the White House. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick reveals 50 nations reached out to negotiate tariffs, warns ‘there is no postponing’

By Ronny Reyes | New York Post Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said about 50 nations have reached out to the US to discuss President Trump’s sweeping tariffs, though he said nothing will stop the levies from going forward. Defending the president’s economic plan on Sunday, Lutnick said the calls from foreign officials prove that “these countries know that they’ve been ripping us off,” suggesting there was no room for negotiations. “There is no postponing,” he told CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “They are definitely going to stay in place for days and weeks.” READ THE FULL STORY AT THE NEW YORK POST

Trump says China ‘played it wrong’ with tariff retaliation, vows ‘my policies will never change’

By Diana Glebova | New York Post President Trump stood by his “Liberation Day” reciprocal tariff package Friday after China hit back with a 34% tariff on US goods, promising investors that his “policies will never change.” In a string of all-caps Truth Social posts, the president argued his duties will withstand the test of the markets, which plunged yet again in the first hour of Friday trading. “CHINA PLAYED IT WRONG, THEY PANICKED – THE ONE THING THEY CANNOT AFFORD TO DO!” he wrote. Liberation day and the end of the world’s trade war against America

By John Carney | Breitbart Tariffs Are Blooming in the Rose Garden President Trump is set to step into the Rose Garden tomorrow for what may be the most consequential economic announcement of his second term. Markets are bracing. Diplomats are dialing. Pundits are speculating wildly. But no one—not Wall Street, not foreign governments, not even some inside the West Wing—seems to know exactly what will be announced. This, as it turns out, is part of the design. Trump has dubbed it Liberation Day—a piece of branding with more substance than cynicism. For weeks, he’s signaled that a sweeping new tariff regime is coming. Twenty percent across the board? A reciprocal system that mirrors foreign rates? Something hybrid and more complex? The ambiguity is not a bug. It’s...

Trump threatens even larger tariffs on EU, Canada if they work together to cause ‘economic harm’ to the US

By Bradford Betz | Fox Business President Donald Trump early Thursday threatened even larger tariffs on the European Union and Canada if both economies worked together to do "economic harm to the USA."  Writing on his Truth Social platform, the president warned: "If the European Union works with Canada in order to do economic harm to the USA, large scale Tariffs, far larger than currently planned, will be placed on them both in order to protect the best friend that each of these countries has ever had!"  The post comes after the president announced on Wednesday he would impose a 25% tariff on all imported autos.  The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) issued a statement Thursday saying it was "deeply concerned" by Trump's announcement of additional tarif...

Trump slaps tariff on all countries that buy oil from Venezuela

By  Zach Jewell | Daily Wire President Donald Trump announced on Monday that any nation that purchases oil from Venezuela would be hit with a 25% tariff by the United States. Trump wrote on Truth Social that the “Secondary Tariff” on Venezuela is in response to the country “purposefully and deceitfully” sending violent criminals to the United States. The Trump administration has begun deporting alleged violent Venezuelan illegal immigrants to El Salvador, where they are being held in a notorious prison. “Among the gangs they sent to the United States, is Tren de Aragua, which has been given the designation of ‘Foreign Terrorist Organization.’ We are in the process of returning them to Venezuela — It is a big task!” Trump said. “In addition, Venezuela has been very hostil...

EU delays imposing first round of retaliatory tariffs against US until mid-April

By Pilar Arias , Bonny Chu  | Fox Business The European Union (EU) has delayed imposing its first retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. until mid-April, after President Donald Trump threatened a 25% tariff increase on all steel and aluminum imports earlier this month, according to Reuters.  The countermeasures of around $28 billion on U.S. goods, including a 50% tariff on American whiskey, were originally set to phase in on April 1, with a second wave to hit on April 13. However, the EU decided on Thursday to delay imposing all retaliatory tariffs until mid-April, Reuters reported. READ THE FULL STORY AT FOX BUSINESS
