Federal Officials Say Jeffco Must Change Transgender Policies or Lose Federal Funds

By: Matt Kyle | The Denver Gazette The U.S. Department of Education on Friday warned Jeffco Public Schools it has 10 days to correct alleged Title IX violations over the Colorado district’s transgender policy or lose federal funding. The Notice of Impending Action is the latest development in an ongoing saga between the district and the federal government that started last year, when the DOE’s Office of Civil Rights started an investigation into Jeffco over alleged Title IX violations relating to the district’s policies regarding transgender students. Colorado Springs District 49 Advances Facility Policy Focused on Biological Sex

By Eric Young | The Gazette School District 49’s board of education discussed a new district policy that would maintain segregation of district facilities based on biological sex during their regular meeting Thursday night. The proposed policy JBAA would establish clear guidelines to separate toilet, locker room and shower facilities between students of opposite sexes, regardless of gender identity. All previous policies or guidance allowing access based on gender identity would be rescinded. Federal Order On All-Gender Bathrooms Meets Pushback From DPS

By Heather Willard | KDVR Fox 31 DENVER (KDVR) — In late August, the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights told Denver Public Schools that it violated Title IX protections when it created an all-gender bathroom. Now, the district is asking for a 90-day negotiation period to resolve the allegations. The results of the OCR’s investigation were received by the district on Aug. 28. On Aug. 21, the district announced it had converted a second bathroom to become all-gender.
