Federal civil rights office finds Jeffco schools violated Title IX, gives district 10 days to comply

By Jen Schumann | Rocky Mountain Voice Girls in Jefferson County Public Schools have been sharing bathrooms, locker rooms, overnight accommodations and sports rosters with male students—and the federal government just said that has to stop. The feds ruled Friday that Jeffco violated Title IX. Colorado’s second-largest school district, serving 74,200 students, has 10 days to comply or face enforcement action—including potential loss of federal funding.  OCR received athletic rosters directly from Jeffco confirming that male students occupy 61 positions on girls' sports teams across the district. Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Kimberly Richey said the investigation found the district violated Title IX protections for female students. "Today's findings reveal sweeping ...

Colorado Democrats defeat bills on girls’ sports fairness and malpractice timelines for gender treatments

By Shaina Cole | Contributing Writer, Rocky Mountain Voice Colorado lawmakers earlier this week heard testimony that moved between two questions tied to the state’s ongoing debate over transgender policies. One centered on medical treatments performed years earlier and whether patients should have more time to file malpractice claims. The other focused on school athletics and whether girls’ sports programs should be limited to biological females. Physicians spoke about long-term medical outcomes. Detransitioners described treatments they received as minors and the consequences they say followed years later. Athletes and parents weighed in on fairness in girls’ sports. Both questions came before the House State, Civic, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. ...

Supreme Court Sides With Parents In California Gender Identity Secrecy Fight

By Tyler O'Neil | The Daily Signal The Supreme Court Monday vindicated parental rights, upholding an injunction against California’s gender secrecy policy, which mandated that school staff hide a student’s claimed transgender identity from parents unless the student expressly consented to reveal it. “This is a watershed moment for parental rights in America,” Paul Jonna, special counsel at the Thomas More Society, said in a statement responding to the decision Monday. “The Supreme Court has told California and every state in the nation in no uncertain terms: you cannot secretly transition a child behind a parent’s back.” “The court’s landmark reaffirmation of substantive due process, its vindication of religious liberty, and its approval of class-wide re...

Colorado Democrats Strike Identity Clause From Family Court Bill After Backlash

By Marissa Ventrelli | The Denver Gazette The sponsors of a proposal that would require suppression of records in name-change petitions for minors removed a provision that would have mandated the courts to factor in the issue of “identity” when allocating parenting time. In its original form, Senate Bill 018, included a requirement that family courts consider whether parents recognize their child’s identity “as it relates to a protected class” when determining parenting time decision-making responsibility. The protected classes in Colorado include gender identity and gender expression. A similar provision was amended out of last year’s House Bill 1312, which was ultimately signed into law. In that bill, the courts would have been required to consider “...

Medical Group Recommends Delaying Transgender Surgeries Until Age 19

By Molly Parks | Washington Examiner The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released a statement recommending doctors refuse gender-related surgeries for transgender patients under the age of 19, a move the Trump administration is calling a win. “ASPS concludes there is insufficient evidence demonstrating a favorable risk-benefit ratio for the pathway of gender-related endocrine and surgical interventions in children and adolescents. ASPS recommends that surgeons delay gender-related breast/chest, genital, and facial surgery until a patient is at least 19 years old,” the ASPS recommendation reads. The Department of Health and Human Services and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. praised the group for its recomme...

Supreme Court Takes Up Cases That Could Redefine Women’s Sports

By Stacy Robinson, Sam Dorman | The Epoch Times The court is set to consider the legality of two state laws that ban males who identify as transgender from participating in girls’ sports. Selina Soule was a high school track and field champion in Connecticut, holding multiple state conference titles and school records. But when male athletes who identified as transgender started competing against her, Soule said her prospects of winning diminished. “It didn’t matter how much time I put in, in practice; how much extra effort I put in. There was nothing I could do to win the race,” Soule, who graduated from Glastonbury High School in 2020, told The Epoch Times. Soule’s sentiments have been common in the ongoing national debate surrounding males competing ...

House Passes Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Bill Targeting Gender Transition Procedures For Minors

By Sudiksha Kochi | The Hill The House passed a bill Wednesday sponsored by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) that would criminalize gender-affirming procedures and medical care for minors. Greene had secured a deal with leadership to bring her bill to the floor in exchange for her support of a rule advancing the National Defense Authorization Act last week. It passed 216-211. Three Democrats — Reps. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), Don Davis (D-N.C.) and Vicente Gonzalez (D-Texas) — voted with most Republicans in favor and four Republicans — Reps. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.), Gabe Evans (R-Colo.) and Mike Kennedy (R-Utah) — voted with most Democrats against it. “Children are NOT experiments. No more drugs. No more surgeries. No...

Federal Investigation Targets Colorado’s Prison Policies and Youth Facility Failures

By: Cleo Westin | The Gazette The U.S. Department of Justice opened an investigation into possible constitutional violations of Colorado prisoners through inadequate treatment and transgender housing policy, according to a release by the agency. The department’s letter of notice to Gov. Jared Polis on Monday identified housing “biological males” in female units in violation of religious freedom, inadequate medical care, excessive force and inadequate nutrition in youth facilities as matters it will investigate. The Department of Justice’s action to investigate aspects of an entire state’s prison system appears to be the first of its kind in 2025. It comes following a 2024 settlement on the treatment of transgender prisoners and several reports of inadequate care at prisons and you...

Joy Reid discovers the Y in XY stands for “Yikes!” when she envisions locker-room reality

By Brian C. Joondeph | Commentary, American Thinker Joy Reid, the fired MSNBC commentator who swung from defining women as ‘a social construct’ and invoking Nazi Germany when anyone challenged transgender orthodoxy, now says she would “freak out” if she found a man in a women’s locker room. https://twitter.com/TheFive/status/1991506817138999298?s=20 A belated moment of honesty, it seems, yet it only underscores how privileged it is to hold ideological positions until they actually affect you. That’s the essence of one of the left’s modern pastimes – virtue signaling. Nothing reveals the hollowness of progressive politics faster than the moment when theory collides with biology. In a clip shared widely on X/Twitter, Reid admitted that yes, if she walked into the ...

Education Dept Tightens Loan Forgiveness, Excludes Groups Promoting Trans Surgeries and Illegal Aid

By: Jaryn Crouson | The Daily Caller The Department of Education (ED) on Thursday updated a rule on public service employee eligibility for student loan forgiveness, disqualifying any who work at organizations that advocate for sex change operations for minors, or which aid illegal aliens. The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program generally applies to government workers and some nonprofits that are deemed to be serving the public, but the new rule disqualifies employers who “have a substantial illegal purpose.” The disqualifications include “aiding and abetting violations of Federal immigration laws,” “supporting terrorism or engaging in violence,” “engaging in the chemical and surgical castration or mutilation of children,” “engaging in the trafficking of children to States...
