United Flights Resume After Grounding Thousands Over Tech Glitch

By Shivani Tanna and Rajesh Kumar Singh | The Gazette CHICAGO (Reuters) -United Airlines said a technology issue that led to a grounding of its flights for a few hours at U.S. airports and major delays across its network on Wednesday had been resolved. "While we expect residual delays, our team is working to restore our normal operations," the airline said. The technology issue prompted ground stops at several major United hub airports including Newark, Denver, Houston, and Chicago, according to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's website. United said the problem related to its Unimatic system that houses information about each flight that is then fed to other systems, including those that calculate weight and balance and track flight times. United’s filing with Denver could signal possible HQ move out of Chicago

By Ben Bradley | Fox 21 News United Airlines has sent another signal about a potential move of its corporate headquarters from Chicago to Denver.  In a new filing with the City of Denver, United said it may eventually build more than 1 million square feet of office space to accommodate more than 6,000 employees on land it purchased in 2023 near the Denver airport. United employs nearly 5,000 corporate employees in Chicago.  The first priority for development of the Denver land is for a new flight simulator training center.  The airline says future growth and pilot training will create demand for 60 additional flight simulator bays than United currently operates closer to the downtown Denver. Josh Hawley scolds airline executives for putting Americans through a ‘horrible’ flying experience

During a Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, senior executives from American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines were questioned about their companies increasing fees on customoers.  Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn, the chair of the subcommittee, announced the hearing in late November, just as the committee released the findings of its PSI Majority Report. The report highlighted how major airlines have increasingly used ancillary or junk fees to boost their revenue, which has driven up costs for consumers, according to Blumenthal.
