Arrest Made After Explosions Damage High Line Canal Trail Near Denver

By Austen Erblat | CBS Colorado An 18-year-old Colorado man has been arrested and now faces multiple charges related to recent explosions that damaged the High Line Canal Trail near Denver. The man, who was not identified by police, is accused of setting off multiple homemade explosive devices along the canal, mostly between October and December. Cherry Hills Village Police, however, said they observed a suspicious person on the trail through police cameras on Jan. 6. The suspect who was described by police in a public alert in December was seen riding a "higher wattage" e-bike with a dark frame, wide tires, and handlebar mittens, and the department said the person they saw on Jan. 6 had "clothing and mode of transportation" that matched previous descriptions...

Brighton Memorial Honoring Veterans Vandalized for Tenth Time

By: Gabriela Vidal | CBS Colorado A local veterans' memorial in Colorado was vandalized with graffiti just one day after Veterans Day, and repairs could cost up to $3,000. County officials say the site has been vandalized 10 times in the last two years. It happened at the Adams County Veterans Memorial in Brighton on Wednesday, park officials and law enforcement say. "This is actually a replica of the USS Colorado battleship from World War II," said Byron Fanning, parks director for Adams County. Fanning said the memorial is meant to honor those who gave their lives in service of the country. "This is such a great place for people to come and reflect and really get deep into thought," he said. But only a day after residents adorned the memorial with flowers in h...

By Robert Garrison | Denver7 Local residents say the park’s condition has worsened CHERRY CREEK STATE PARK, Colo. — Park officials said that an increase in crime and large parties has led to the decision to close Cherry Creek State Park overnight. A Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesperson stated that park rangers have observed an increase in after-dark, unpermitted parties in the park. CPW said these gatherings have led to an increase in vandalism, trash, and noise violations within the park. Due to these concerns, park rangers said the state park will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The only visitors allowed in the park during this time are campers, who must present their camping reservations to gain entry. Local residents say the park’s condition has worsened, and ...

Campaign Signs for Elizabeth School Board Defaced With Hate Symbols

By Anna Coon | KDVR Fox31 ELBERT, Colo. (KDVR) — Three candidates for the Elizabeth School Board woke up Tuesday to a disturbing sight: their campaign signs had been vandalized. David Fletcher, a current school board member and one of the candidates whose sign was defaced, said he wasn’t surprised to see the damage. The signs, which he shares with two other conservative candidates, were all marked with swastikas early Tuesday morning. “I think that they are just some people that are filled with hate,” Fletcher said. “Who knew I was going to be painted as a Nazi just for running for school board?” Fletcher says tensions in the local political scene have likely increased due to the district’s ongoing court battle with the ACLU over books it tried to remove from school libraries. ...
