Colorado Offers Tax Relief for Residents and Businesses Hit by Wildfires

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) — Due to multiple wildfires burning throughout the state, including the Gold Mountain, Elk and Snyder Fires, Governor Jared Polis and the Department of Revenue (DOR) announced extended deadlines and state tax relief options for affected individuals and businesses.

Since Polis declared an emergency for the Aspen AcresFerrisGold MountainWillow, Sharpe, Poitrey Canyon, Snyder, Green Ridge and Big Sheep Fires, the residents in the following counties are eligible: Dolores, Montezuma, Lake, Mesa, Pueblo, Custer, Ouray, Las Animas, Baca, Routt, San Miguel and Huerfano counties.

The list of eligibility may expand based on any new emergency declarations.

With the announcement, DOR extended deadlines for some state tax filings, such as sales taxes otherwise due between July 20 and Oct. 20 and income tax extensions otherwise due on Oct. 15, to Dec. 31.
