In 3rd District, Democratic Super PAC is running ads to help Ron Hanks win primary

By Jesse Paul and Sandra Fish | The Colorado Sun A Democratic super PAC is spending at least $84,000 — and counting — to air a television ad boosting the profile of an election conspiracy theorist it wants to see win the six-way Republican primary in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.  The ad campaign is an effort by Rocky Mountain Values PAC to advance former state Rep. Ron Hanks to the general election because the group appears to believe he will be easier for the de facto Democratic nominee, former Aspen City Councilman Adam Frisch, to beat in November.  It’s a strategy Democrats tried in multiple Colorado races in 2022, including Hanks’ bid for U.S. Senate that year. It didn’t work, however. The more moderate GOP candidates won their primaries, but lost in the ge...

Caldara: At CU you can get a domestic terrorist scholarship

By Jon Caldara | Complete Colorado Canceling college loan debt isn’t enough! You heard me. Confiscating money from people who never went to college, as well as those who foolishly paid off their own college loans, to give the booty to those who knowingly agreed to pay back their loans isn’t enough. Why? Well, duh — it doesn’t memorialize acts of violence perpetrated in the name of social justice! If you had a modern college education, you’d understand that. Colleges and universities around the country should follow the lead of the University of Colorado and give out scholarships in the name of domestic terrorists. Lone Tree residents protest plans to locate new 23rd Judicial District office near Heritage Hills

By Noah Festenstein | Denver Gazette Several Lone Tree residents are pushing back against one of the proposed locations for an office that will host the brand new 23rd Judicial District, which will encompass Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties.   The new office will also offer pre-trial and probation services. The pushback from residents is directed at locating the office at One Lincoln Station, a building inside a business park just east of the Heritage Hills neighborhood. The location offers access to the E line of the Regional Transportation District rail system and Interstate 25. The residents, particularly those in the Heritage Hills neighborhood, accused the Douglas County Commission of lacking transparency and argued that the new office would increase cri...

Jury asks to rehear testimony about 2015 Trump Tower meeting

By Tom Howell Jr.  | The Washington Times The jury weighing former President Donald Trump’s fate in his hush money trial asked the court Wednesday to read back testimony from tabloid executive David Pecker and former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen about a key meeting at Trump Tower in August 2015. The request was the first signal to come out of the deliberations room. It came shortly before 3 p.m., or about four hours into deliberations, including the lunch hour. A bell buzzed in the courtroom, signaling the jury needed something and prompting state Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan to read the four-part request from the jury aloud. Meet Colorado’s 12 billionaires, not all of which are continuing to build wealth

By Michael Roberts | Westword In these United States, the rich almost always get richer. But several of Colorado's 12 billionaires have proven to be an exception to this rule. According to Forbes's recently published list of global billionaires, some of the state's richest people have seen their wealth shrink in the 2020s, including one entrepreneur whose current net worth is around one-fifth the size it was just three years ago. The overall trend definitely isn't toward shrinkage. Forbes points out that as of late April, the planet boasted 2,781 billionaires, 26 more than the previous record, set in 2021. Moreover, the portfolios of these individuals are collectively valued at around $14.2 trillion, approximately $1.1 trillion higher than 2021's standard-setti...

Trump as New York jury deliberates: ‘Mother Teresa could not beat these charges’

By BRETT SAMUELS | The Hill Former President Trump fumed Wednesday just after his New York City criminal case was turned over to the jury for deliberations, blasting the judge in the case and bemoaning that “Mother Teresa could not beat these charges.” Trump spoke to reporters gathered outside the courtroom moments after a jury of 12 New Yorkers began deliberating in the former president’s hush money criminal case. “Mother Teresa could not beat these charges. These charges are rigged. The whole country’s a mess, between the borders and fake elections, and you have a trial like this where the judge is so conflicted he can’t breathe,” Trump said. “It’s a disgrace. And I mean that. Mother Teresa could not beat those charges. But we’ll see. We’ll see how we do,” he added. READ T...

In Colorado’s nonlethal wolf deterrent game, its Wolves 3, Cows 0 in one county, and ranchers aren’t pleased

By Tracy Ross | Colorado Sun Grand County ranchers say three calves were killed by wolves in the month since they were given $20,000 to hire a range rider to protect their cattle, and they’re demanding more action from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. But CPW says there’s not enough proof to confirm wolves transplanted to Colorado were responsible for more than one of the three dead calves found on May 11 and remains unwilling to kill the large predators, according to ranchers.   The stockgrowers wrote yet another angry letter to CPW director Jeff Davis requesting wolf No. 2309 and wolf No. 2312 be removed from the Williams Fork River Basin. Their request, dated May 23, references a rule in the Colorado Wolf Restoration Plan that lays out certain conditions under which a w...

Bond markets sound inflation alarm, testing record run for U.S. stocks

By Martin Baccardax | The Street Global stocks turned lower this week as investors hit pause on an impressive spring rally amid new warning signals from the bond market that suggest inflation pressure could remain elevated well into the summer months.  The S&P 500 has printed no fewer than 24 record highs this year, and has powered to a five-month gain of around 11.25%, on the strength of improving corporate earnings, a resilient economy and outsized gains in the tech sector tied to the surge in artificial-intelligence investments.  On the fixed-income side, however, things have been notably dour, with global government bond portfolios down 4.9% for the year, according to data from Bank of America's 'Flow Show' report. Bond investors are typica...

VA says its trust scores among veterans are at highest level ever, 25% surge in 8 years

By Leo Shane III | Air Force Times Trust in Veterans Affairs programs rose dramatically over the last eight years amid department efforts to improve delivery of medical and disability benefits, according to new data released by agency officials on Tuesday. Overall confidence in the department increased from just over half of users in 2016 (55%) to more than 80% this past quarter, based on figures in VA’s recurring Veteran Signals Survey. That report polled more than 38,000 veterans using a wide range of department services, including medical care, disability benefits, and home loans programs. “This is meaningful because it is the voice of the veterans that we serve from across all different ages, service areas, locations, and demographics, telling us how we are delivering for...

Trump Vows: ‘I will rip up, throw away WHO pandemic agreement’

By Ben Johnson  | The Daily Signal Former President Donald Trump has put the issue of world government at the forefront of the 2024 presidential race, vowing to “protect American sovereignty” and the U.S. Constitution from the designs of unelected global bureaucrats. Trump took aim at global governance institutions in general, and the World Health Organization specifically, on Saturday, promising to shred and annul the WHO Pandemic Agreement unless President Joe Biden submits the document to the U.S. Senate for ratification, as required for treaties. “As we speak, Joe Biden’s minions are in Geneva, secretly negotiating to surrender more of our liberty to the World Health Organization,” Trump told the Libertarian National Convention, eliciting a fulsom...
