There is a modern space race and this time more than the moon is at stake

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff As the specter of conflict extends from terrestrial battlegrounds into the celestial sphere, the United States is actively preparing for the possibility of space warfare, spurred by escalating threats from nations like China and Russia. This new era of military strategy underscores a dramatic shift in the dynamics of global power and security. The central assets in this emerging battlefield are satellites, crucial for national defense and global communication systems. Historically shielded by their distance from Earth, these satellites now face risks from sophisticated antisatellite weapons developed by foreign adversaries. Both China's aggressive satellite launches and Russia's deployment of potentially weaponized satellites signal a clear intent to ...

Who Raided Your Share of $2.8 Billion in TABOR Tax Refunds?

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff As a result of 101 bills passed by the Colorado legislature, over $2.8 billion in state TABOR refunds will not be distributed to Colorado taxpayers between 2024 and 2026, according to a recent report from the Common Sense Institute (CSI). This amount represents nearly half of the projected $6 billion in TABOR refunds expected over the next three years. Key Findings: The $2.8 billion loss in TABOR refunds is attributed to various tax cuts and the costs of bills impacting TABOR. The legislature's actions during the 2024 session have significantly redirected funds meant for taxpayer refunds. CSI's report indicates that TABOR refund cuts will increase over the next three years, with reductions of $523 million in 2024, $1.06 billion in 2025, and $1.25 ...

Want real property tax relief? Stay tuned for ballot initiatives in November.

By Rocky Mountain Voice Staff A bill passed yesterday, touted as the answer to skyrocketing property taxes, does NOT cut property taxes. Instead of paying an effective rate of 6.3% this year, you'll be paying 6.8% next year.  Colorado lawmakers wrapped up their 2024 legislative session Wednesday evening by sending Gov. Jared Polis a last-minute property tax relief bill, Senate Bill 233. Introduced on Monday after months of negotiations, this was one of the final bills to pass before the Assembly adjourned for the year. Lawmakers hope the measure will dissuade voters from backing property tax measures on the November ballot that could significantly impact state and local government budgets.  Colorado Concern, the group ready to push a ballot initiative, didn’t get on board.  S...

Jared Polis. House Bill 1072, by Rep. Lisa Frizell, R-Castle Rock, and Rep. Shannon Bird, D-Westminster, adds protections in law for victims of sexual assault. The bill passed the House by a rare 63-2 vote, with only Democrat Reps. Judy Amabile and Elisabeth Epps opposed. “I am proud to be a part of this expansion to broaden protections for victims of sexual assault,” Frizell said in a statement. “This is a crucial step in promoting a fair and just legal system for victims and ensuring the blame is placed on the perpetrator, not the victim." Under current law, criminal rape shield laws ar...
