WATCH LIVE: State of the Union address and responses from Sen. Britt, Donald Trump

By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice President Joe Biden is preparing to deliver his final State of the Union address of his first term to Congress. While the guest list for those sitting with First Lady Jill Biden during the speech gives some indiction toward the themes, it won’t be delivered until 7 p.m. Mountain Time – that’s 9 p.m. Eastern Time if you happen to be in Washington, D.C. The broadcast at WhiteHouse.gov will allow viewers to post emojis to give a reaction as the State of the Union happens, but don’t expect a chance to offer a negative reaction. The three emojis being offered are thumbs up, love and celebrate, although Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre continues to claim the President is ready to handle any opposition to his positions on the economy and the c...

How a friend’s death turned Colorado teens into anti-overdose activists

By Rae Ellen Bichell | Colorado Sun Gavinn McKinney loved Nike shoes, fireworks, and sushi. He was studying Potawatomi, one of the languages of his Native American heritage. He loved holding his niece and smelling her baby smell. On his 15th birthday, the Durango teen spent a cold December afternoon chopping wood to help neighbors who couldn’t afford to heat their homes. McKinney almost made it to his 16th birthday. He died of fentanyl poisoning at a friend’s house in December 2021. His friends say it was the first time he tried hard drugs. The memorial service was so packed people had to stand outside the funeral home. Now, his peers are trying to cement their friend’s legacy in state law. They recently testified to state lawmakers in support of House Bill 1003, a piece of legisl...

‘Just too old’ Joe Biden enters State of the Union with something to prove

What to Watch in Biden’s State of the Union Address By Emel Akan | Epoch Times President Joe Biden will deliver his third State of the Union address on March 7, using the opportunity to allay concerns about his age and persuade Americans that he can serve a second term as the country barrels toward a high-stakes election in November. Viewers will mostly be evaluating President Biden based on his performance, not just his message. Is he making mistakes? Will there be any verbal blunders? Is he appearing energetic and in control? How will he confront hecklers? His actions will be carefully monitored. Hence, it will be a crucial address for the 46th president as he works to restore public trust in his age and mental acuity. “It’s going to be an incredibly important ...

‘Anytime, Anywhere, Anyplace’: Trump issues debate challenge to Biden

By Naveen Athrappully | Epoch Times Former President Donald Trump challenged President Joe Biden to debate him on key issues facing the nation. “It is important, for the good of our country, that Joe Biden and I debate issues that are so vital to America, and the American people. Therefore, I am calling for debates, anytime, anywhere, anyplace!" “The debates can be run by the corrupt DNC, or their subsidiary, the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). I look forward to receiving a response. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” President Trump said in a March 7 Truth Social post. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE EPOCH TIMES

Secretary Griswold ‘unfit’ and ‘lacks integrity’ House Republican letter reads

By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice A month has passed since Republicans in the Colorado House of Representatives first called upon Speaker Julie McCluskie to hear Articles of Impeachment for Secretary of State Jena Griswold. “Since being elected, the secretary of state has used her position as a platform for her partisan political ideology and has proven herself unfit for this elected position,” a new letter from Rep. Ryan Armagost and signed by 16 other Republicans reads. The letter, dated March 6, 2024, terms it imperative to have the matter placed on the legislative calendar. “The secretary of state has consistently been criticized for her lack of transparency and questionable bias,” Armagost’s letter continues. “Her partisan political beliefs are constantly the subj...

Colorado House Republicans push move to impeach Jena Griswold after SCOTUS keeps Trump on ballot

By Ernest Luning | Colorado Politics Colorado House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese and a fellow Republican legislator on Wednesday called on the chamber's Democratic speaker to bring to the floor a resolution to impeach Secretary of State Jena Griswold, arguing that Griswold's "partisan political ideology" has prevented the Democrat from carrying out her duties. In a letter delivered late Wednesday to House Speaker Julie McCluskie by Pugliese and state Rep. Ryan Armagost, nearly every member of the House Republican caucus insisted that Monday's U.S. Supreme Court decision keeping Donald Trump on Colorado's presidential primary ballot underlines the urgency of their impeachment resolution, which the lawmakers say was submitted to the speaker's office nearly a month ago. Griswold, an...

Holdout Republicans fall in line behind Trump after Super Tuesday sweep

By Cami Mondeaux| Colorado Springs Gazette Republicans who had held off on throwing their support behind former President Donald Trump are now getting off the sidelines after his performance on Super Tuesday all but guaranteed he will be the party's presidential nominee. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) endorsed Trump on Wednesday, making him the highest-ranking Senate Republican to back the former president. The endorsement comes despite the pair not having spoken since Trump left office and even after McConnell partially blamed the former president for the Jan. 6 riot. “It is abundantly clear that former President Trump has earned the requisite support of Republican voters to be our nominee for President of the United States,” McConnell said...

‘They call it Super Tuesday for a reason,’ Trump says as he celebrates victory

By BRIAN PORTER | The Rocky Mountain Voice Super Tuesday was just that, President Donald Trump said March 5 following Republican Party primary elections in 16 different states – 15 of which he won. “They call it Super Tuesday for a reason,” he said. “There’s never been anything so conclusive. This was an amazing night, an amazing day; it has been an incredible period of time.” A handful of opponents were whittled down to one by Super Tuesday, and by Wednesday morning his only remaining opponent, Nikki Haley, suspended her campaign.  In a post on Truth social, Trump called for Haley’s supporters to unify under him and “join the greatest movement in the history of our nation.” In Colorado, he won the Republican primary by 30 percentage points, taking victories in 57 of 64 coun...
