$16 trillion question: Was the climate agenda history’s biggest financial misfire?

By Stephen Moore | Commentary, The Epoch Times Environmental scholar Bjorn Lomborg recently calculated that across the globe, governments have spent at least $16 trillion feeding the climate change industrial complex. And for what? Arguably, not a single life has been or will be saved by this shameful and colossal misallocation of human resources. The war on safe and abundant fossil fuels has cost countless lives in poor countries and made those countries poorer by blocking affordable energy. Since the global warming crusade started some 30 years ago, the temperature of the planet has not been altered by one-tenth of a degree—as even the alarmists will admit. In other words, $16 trillion has been spent—a lot of people got very, very rich off the governmen...

Supreme Court Takes Up Cases That Could Redefine Women’s Sports

By Stacy Robinson, Sam Dorman | The Epoch Times The court is set to consider the legality of two state laws that ban males who identify as transgender from participating in girls’ sports. Selina Soule was a high school track and field champion in Connecticut, holding multiple state conference titles and school records. But when male athletes who identified as transgender started competing against her, Soule said her prospects of winning diminished. “It didn’t matter how much time I put in, in practice; how much extra effort I put in. There was nothing I could do to win the race,” Soule, who graduated from Glastonbury High School in 2020, told The Epoch Times. Soule’s sentiments have been common in the ongoing national debate surrounding males competing ...

China’s Communist Regime Tightens Grip on Christmas Celebrations

By Michael Zhuang | The Epoch Times Authorities limit church services, campus activity, and public displays, leaving holiday events largely confined to officially sanctioned venues. Christmas Eve passed quietly across much of China this year as the Chinese communist regime tightened restrictions on religious gatherings, public celebrations, and even seasonal decorations, according to interviews with pastors, Christians, and residents across the country. House churches in several provinces said planned Christmas services were blocked by state security officials, universities warned students against public celebrations or social media posts related to Christmas, and police in Shanghai detained people participating in spontaneous street activities. Commercial Christmas ...

Wikipedia cofounder urges reform or regulation to stop ideological bias

By Jan Jekielek, Lawrence Wilson | The Epoch Times Larry Sanger said that the website has become biased against conservative and religious viewpoints but that he sees a way to fix it. Wikipedia, a popular online encyclopedia that millions of people treat as an authoritative source of information, is systemically biased against conservative, religious, and other points of view, according to Larry Sanger, cofounder of the site. Sanger, 57, who now heads the Knowledge Standards Foundation, said he believes that Wikipedia can be salvaged either by a renewed emphasis on free speech within the organization or by a grassroots campaign to make diverse viewpoints heard. Failing that, Sanger said, government intervention may be required to pierce the shell of anonymity that now protects ...

Trump condemns Charlotte stabbing, says nation must stand against evil

By Tom Ozimek | The Epoch Times The president called the Charlotte train stabbing ‘horrible’ and said nation must confront evil. President Donald Trump on Sept. 8 denounced the fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a “horrible” act, saying the nation must stand up against “evil people.” “We’re all people of religion, but there are evil people,” Trump said during remarks at the Museum of the Bible. “And we have to confront that. I just give my love and hope to the family of the young woman who was stabbed this morning or last night in Charlotte by a madman.” The victim, Iryna Zarutska, was killed on Aug. 22 while riding the city’s light rail, minutes after taking a seat in front of the man accused of attacking her, according to police...

Kennedy Jr. “The emergency use authorizations for Covid vaccines, once used to justify broad mandates on the general public during the Biden administration, are now rescinded,” Kennedy, the head of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), said on X on Aug. 27. At the same time, the Food and Drug Administration has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for older adults as well as children as young as 5 years of age who have at least one condition that officials say puts them at higher risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes, Pfizer said in a ...

‘Not a side budget anymore’: English learner costs surge in public schools

By Aaron Gifford | The Epoch Times Federal and state laws mandate accommodations for all English language learners in public schools. Despite federal effectiveness at curbing illegal immigration, most states still allocate extra money for students learning English, regardless of whether they are here legally. All states apply a per-pupil funding formula for local districts. Above that base rate, 47 states and the District of Columbia provide additional money for English language learners. The expanded rates range from $904 to $16,161 per student if that pupil is also low-income, according to the Learning Policy Institute, which estimates there are more than 5 million English learners across K–12 public education. That includes nearly half the student population in the Dallas...
