The Trump administration attempted to pursue a blanket pause of federal aid disbursements pending a review of the various spending items in January, but the order was blocked by a federal circuit court after several lawsuits, including one by more than a dozen state attorneys general. The most significant measure, Senate Bill 25-003, would create some of the strictest gun-ownership rules in the country. It would make it illegal to buy, sell and manufacture most guns that use detachable magazines, unless a person has a special permit. A wide range of rifles, shotguns, pistols and some handguns would be affected by the bill. The order includes requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections, among other measures.
