New effort to ban ‘junk fees’, HB 1090, shifts focus to different industry

By Ed Sealover | The Sum & Substance Colorado Democrats once again are seeking to ban “junk fees” that get added without option onto the advertised prices of goods and services, but their focus this year has shifted largely from hotels and ticket sellers to landlords. Following a four-hour hearing Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee advanced House Bill 1090, which seeks to define the kinds of fees that are deceptive pricing practices and offer protection to consumers through a new private right of action. HB 1090, sponsored by Democratic Reps. Emily Sirota of Denver and Naquetta Ricks of Aurora, passed on a party-line vote and may be debated by the full House as soon as next week. Apple's 11-figure commitment will roll out over the next five years. It will involve building an advanced AI server manufacturing factory near Houston, as well as doubling the company's Advanced Manufacturing Fund from $5 billion to $10 billion. The tech giant also plans to establish an Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, as well as hire 20,000 new employees with focuses on research and development, silicon engineering, artificial intelligence and machine learning. American Airlines flight from JFK airport diverted after bomb threat

Kennedy International Airport to India was diverted to Italy under a fighter jet escort following a bomb threat. American Airlines Flight 292, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, was near Turkmenistan when it was forced to turn around and land in Rome due to a "possible security issue," the airline said. The plane, carrying approximately 285 passengers, was escorted by two Italian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon jets after the alert, according to a report by the Daily Mail. Zelensky, apparently still miffed about not being included in opening talks between the Russians and a White House delegation in Ryiad earlier this week, seems intent on negotiating the peace process from the outside in public.
