Paws are on the Ground

Proposition 114 has been fulfilled after 3 years of strife. Here's how it happened. By Rep. Matthew Soper | SOURCE: The Western Slope Statesman Proposition 114 puts in statute that gray wolves should be reintroduced “on designated land west of the continental divide” by December 31st, 2023. These “designated lands west of the continental divide” are what we colloquially refer to as the Western Slope of Colorado. The purpose of the proposition, according to the environmentalists, is to “restore balance” to Colorado’s ecosystems. For those of us living on the West Slope, it means an assault on our way of life by jeopardizing our ranching, hunting/guiding, tourism, and outdoor recreation economies. Colorado’s reintroduction effort followed reintroduction efforts b...

Council cites hate speech to censor hearing on rent-controlled housing

SOURCE: COLORADO PEAK POLITICS Antisemites allegedly crashed a Durango City Council’s Zoom meeting for a proposed housing development by taking advantage of the public comment period to spew some nastiness and hate. City Council zapped all the comments from the recording, so it’s not clear what was said or whether it was in any way related to the Israel/Palestinian war, or the property rezoning for 300 rent-controlled manufactured homes. The Durango Herald reports council and audience members were “offended and sickened by the hate speech.” But we’ll never know if the comments were really hate speech, or in some way relevant to the zoning topic because even the Durango Herald declined to characterize the stricken comments beyond being hateful, antisemitic, and sexually...

Now Polis says fix the border, as hospital struggles under 22,000 migrant visits

SOURCE: COLORADO PEAK POLITICS Colorado hospitals are begging for a federal bailout to pay for the 20,000-emergency room, childbirth, dental and primary care visits last year from the flood of migrants taking advantage of President Biden’s open border policy. The doctor in charge of government relations at Denver Health told Fox News the country needs orderly migration at the border instead of the come-one-come-all policy that is overwhelming the country’s infrastructure. Ha! Just kidding!  Dr. Steve Federico asked for more taxpayer dollars to fund the unchecked migration and keep ‘em coming! “We absolutely need additional public support to help provide health care to our safety net hospitals such as Denver Health,” Federico told “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday...

Colorado Lawmakers to Consider Pro-Nuclear Bill

By Jake Fogleman | SOURCE: INDEPENDENCE INSTITUTE Colorado lawmakers are set to consider their first nuclear energy bill of the 2024 legislative session later this week. SB24-039, dubbed “Nuclear Energy as a Clean Energy Resource,” is scheduled to go before the Senate Transportation and Energy Committee for first reading on Wednesday. The bill seeks to level the playing field for carbon-free energy technologies under state law by including nuclear energy in the statutory definition of “clean energy.” Nuclear is presently excluded by name. According to the text of the measure: The statutory definition of ‘clean energy’ in current law determines which energy projects are eligible for clean energy project financing at the county and city and county level. The statu...

Top Republican in Colorado House narrowly survives vote to remove him following revelation about his 2022 DUI arrest

By Brian Eason and Jesse Paul | SOURCE: THE COLORADO SUN Colorado House Minority Leader Mike Lynch on Monday narrowly survived a vote to remove him as the leader of the chamber’s 19-member Republican caucus after it was made public last week that he was arrested in 2022 on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and possessing a gun while intoxicated. The vote of no confidence was split 9-9, with one lawmaker absent and Lynch voting to keep his post. In ties, the vote fails. During the tense caucus meeting in a Capitol committee room, Lynch rejected calls from some members of his caucus to resign his post. The Wellington lawmaker defended his tenure, saying the caucus has had more cohesion under his leadership than it had in the past. “If I believed that this event,...

Duvall to Farm Bureau members: Lobby for farm bill in 2024

By Hagstrom Report  | SOURCE: THE FENCE POST SALT LAKE CITY — American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall on Sunday urged members at the group’s annual convention here to lobby hard for Congress to pass a farm bill in 2024.“Thankfully, we achieved a farm bill extension,” Duvall said. “But, we need to get even louder. Now, I know we need to get through the budget process, but we also need to tell Congress it’s urgent to pass a new, modernized farm bill.”Duvall said members could stop by the Farm Bureau booth on the convention trade show floor and pick up a postcard and scan a code to call for action. This is just the first step in our 2024 grassroots advocacy efforts on farm bill,” Duvall said. “I’m asking you to send a resounding message to Congress to deliver a new farm b...

Republicans losing lead over Democrats as infighting saps majority’s momentum

By Jack Birle, Washington Examiner | SOURCE: COLORADO POLITICS Republicans are slated for a tight election to keep control of the House of Representatives in November, as infighting has plagued the GOP's narrow majority in the chamber over the last 12 months. A Decision Desk HQ/NewsNation poll conducted from Jan. 16-18 shows that Republicans have a narrow advantage over Democrats on the generic congressional ballot, with the GOP leading 44%-43%. The GOP won the congressional ballot nationwide 50.6%-47.8% in 2022. Republicans hold a 219-213 majority in the chamber but have been dogged by a dysfunctional conference that has had difficulty with several matters, from passing spending bills to electing House speakers. Eight members of the House GOP joined De...

Vulnerable House Republicans seek boost from Mayorkas impeachment over Biden inquiry

By Rachel Schilke, Washington Examiner | SOURCE: THE GAZETTE House GOP members facing difficult races in November are leaning on the momentum of the impeachment inquiry into Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to boost their chances instead of the one into President Joe Biden. Republicans are entering the 2024 election season looking to present as many political wins as possible, but months of infighting and struggles over top leadership have made that difficult. Now House GOP lawmakers are worried they will have nothing to come to the table with, leaving their most vulnerable members at risk who could make or break a House majority. While Republicans have called for the impeachment of both Biden and Mayorkas since they gained the majo...

Rosen: Democracy is safe, but Biden threatens the Republic

By Mike Rosen | SOURCE: COMPLETE COLORADO PAGE TWO In essence, Joe Biden kicked off his reelection campaign mumbling through a theatrically contrived speech in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania arranged to coincide with the third anniversary of the January 6, 2021 debacle at the U.S. Capitol.  Staging this at the site of George Washington’s Revolutionary War headquarters in front of a backdrop of American flags, Biden shamefully misappropriated the father of our country as an implicit endorser of his re-election. Biden’s handlers seem convinced Trump will be his opponent. The oft-repeated slogan of his tirade loaded with exaggerations, paranoia and demagoguery was that Trump was “a threat to democracy,” echoing the drumbeat Democrats, progressives, and the liberal media have long pound...
