Editorial: Nearly a dozen Republicans want to go to Congress in 4th District

By Rocky Mountain Voice Editorial Board The issue: Colorado’s 4th Congressional District will offer a field of 11 Republican candidates and 17 candidates total for a seat in Congress. We say: A field this large will be difficult to navigate. Get to know the candidates, their values and positions. Ultimately, delegates and then voters will be tasked with selecting one person to send to Washington, D.C. A five-minute opportunity for Congressional candidates to state their case to prospective voters drew a capacity crowd Sunday evening in Windsor at the President's Day Celebration, hosted by the Colorado Conservative Patriot Alliance, in American Legion Post No. 109. Five minutes. That’s 300 seconds. Not exactly an eternity. Then again, anyone unfamiliar with Colorado’s 4th Con...

Reclaiming George Washington’s legacy: The truth behind President’s Day

By Tori Ganahl | Rocky Mountain Voice In the heart of winter, Americans pause to remember one of the nation's greatest leaders, George Washington. Yet, as the holiday season unfolds, the true essence of Washington's Birthday often gets lost in the shuffle of modern interpretations. Since 1879, February 22nd has stood as a testament to the exemplary leadership of George Washington, with the federal government recognizing it as an official holiday. However, over time, the solemnity of this occasion has been diluted by efforts to broaden its scope. George Washington, a paragon of humility, would have likely eschewed the grandeur associated with modern celebrations. Instead, he remained focused on serving his country, even on his own birthday. Despite his modesty, the reverence for Wa...

Could $4 a gallon gasoline be back before Presidential Election Day?

By Charley Blaine | The Street Oil and gasoline prices have distinct seasonal patterns, up after the first of the year up until some time in the summer.  The big questions for this year are:  How high will crude oil prices go?  Will gasoline prices hit startling levels? After peaking and sliding into the end of the year, what happens next might be more painful than you expect. READ THE FULL STORY AT THE STREET

The crazy things Biden’s anti-coal crusade will do to ordinary Americans

By Roger Hanshaw | Fox News The Biden administration’s approach to energy policy ignores the importance of coal and baseload electricity demands.  President Joe Biden revealed as much in a speech last year, announcing that the U.S. will "be shutting these plants down all across America and having wind and solar." Further, Biden's Climate Envoy John Kerry stated at the UN climate conference COP28 that, "we will be working to accelerate unabated coal phase-out across the world."  The Biden administration is determined to eliminate coal-fired power plants in the name of "environmental justice." This is shortsighted.  Biden is now following through on his plans by wielding the vast power of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Biden's EPA gave th...

Gov. Polis busted for cooking on gas stove in his home

By Colorado Peak Politics Did our glassy-eyed governor just expose his hypocrisy and ownership of a (Gasp!) gas stove in sharing a picture of his Valentine’s Day meal with the masses? Governor Polis doesn't want us to have gas stoves or gas water heaters, or anything gas... yet HE has a gas stove?! #copolitics https://t.co/ZV4EWeyV1l— Joshua T. Hosler (@JoshuaHosler) February 15, 2024 The folks on X sure seem to think so. And yet, it’s a little hard to tell, because the photo was cropped so suspiciously close. So we overexposed the shot just a smidgen to take a closer look at the blacked out burner in the bottom right corner to see if that was a gas top grate, or a glass top for an electric stove. Lo and behold, that ain’t no flat top glass burning electric...

The Results Are In: Parents Favor School Choice

By Hanna Skandera | Real Clear Education Parents want a choice when it comes to their children’s education. A new report published by The National School Choice Awareness Foundation reveals that 72% of parents considered new schools for their children in 2023 — a massive 35% increase from 2022. Additionally, more than 70% of parents in nearly every state support the implementation of school choice policies. This momentum has caught the attention of state legislatures across the country. Led by a growing coalition of parents, a total of 14 states established or expanded school choice programs last year, and six of these states passed universal school choice legislation. In October, the U.S. Department of Education announced it would be awarding ...

Hickenlooper plays politics with border security

By Colorado Peak Politics What we have here is a failure to communicate. Senate advances military aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan https://t.co/HM0fEz0TFI— Caitlyn Kim (@caitlynkim) February 13, 2024 When Democrats say they want border security, what they mean is Joe and Jody Taxpayer need to cough up more money by the billions to pay for an entire new infrastructure to keep borders open and migrants pouring through by the millions. When Republicans say they want border security, what they mean is Joe Biden needs to reverse his policies abusing immigration policies to allow migrants by the millions to pour through the border. And, fix the border wall where drug dealers, criminals, terrorists and human traffickers lurk. The solution to an out-of-control migrant cri...

Editorial: Asking EV owners to pay for electricity at taxpayer-funded stations is right call

By Rocky Mountain Voice Editorial Board The issue: Some local governments are moving to user fees for electric vehicle charging stations. We say: This is the correct call. Taxpayers may appropriately invest in the infrastructure, but should not bear the burden of supplying free electricity to the minority of motorists. The free ride on the backs of the taxpayer is over in one Western Slope community. Grand Junction city officials correctly decided last week to end free access to electric vehicle charging at city-owned stations, and rather to implement a fee structure. It is worth commending City Manager Greg Caton for bringing this matter to a head. “There shouldn’t be an expectation of free charging provided by your local government,” he told the City Council. The cit...

The Supremes didn’t buy it. Griswold faces crushing defeat to ban Trump from ballot

By Colorado Peak Politics Poor Jena Griswold. Despite the secretary of state’s best efforts to ban Donald Trump from the Colorado ballot, the U.S. Supreme Court just wasn’t buying it during Thursday’s arguments. Even the liberal justices were skeptical and sound unlikely to uphold the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision allowing the states to determine who can be president. Liberal Justice Elena Kagan basically told Colorado to get over itself. “Why should a single state have the ability to make this determination, not only for their own citizens but for the rest of the nation?” We concur! Fellow liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson got straight to the point. The 14th Amendment to the Constitution was never intended to determine who is eligible to hold the office of t...

Gaines: A Colorado for all, as long as you agree with Democrats

By Cory Gaines | Complete Colorado Is Colorado, as Governor Polis has said he wants, a Colorado for all, or is it just a Colorado for those that agree with Democrat policy?  That’s not a rhetorical question, but rather one I recently sent to all the Democrats in the House of Representatives, and our esteemed governor, after reading about how they recently voted to limit debate on the House floor.  Again. You see, as they did last legislative session, and as they did during the special session on property taxes, the House Democrats voted on the Feb. 2 to allow special rules (normally reserved until the last 3 days of the session) to start as early as 10 days prior to the end of the session.  It makes a few other rule changes that, in essence and like the ...
