New 3-year deal between teachers union and DPS sparks debate on costs and accountability

By Abraham Jewett | Fox 31 DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Classroom Teachers Association announced Thursday that it has voted to ratify a new three-year collective bargaining agreement with Denver Public Schools. The vote to ratify comes around two months after the DCTA reached a tentative agreement with DPS in June, following several months of negotiations. Now, residents are left wondering who’s responsible and how they’re going to get around. “I woke up to a phone call and pounding on the door saying, ‘Hey, tires or vehicles have been dealt with and we don’t know who and we don’t know how many,’” one resident said, speaking about how neighbors at the Benedect Park Place woke her up with the news about a series of slashed tires in their garage. Close call at Colorado rail crossing as car struck by train after evacuation

By Brooke Williams | Fox 31 DENVER (KDVR) — People were able to get out of a car before it was hit by an oncoming train on Sunday night. South Adams County Fire Department said in a post on X that it responded to the crash at the intersection of Highway 2 and 88th Avenue around 10:50 p.m. When Battalion Chief 21 arrived, crews found a vehicle with moderate damage and a train that was stopped at the railroad crossing. The fire department said the occupants inside the vehicle were able to get out before the collision with the train, and no one was injured. Colorado sees 20% drop in youth suicides year over year

By Spencer Kristensen | Fox 31 DENVER (KDVR) —The rate for youth suicide in Colorado is at its lowest since 2007, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Office of Suicide Prevention said in a press release on Monday morning. According to data from CDPHE, in 2024, there were 38 suicide deaths among youth between the ages of 10 and 18, resulting in a suicide rate of 5.85 deaths per 100,000 people between the ages of 10 and 18.
